Saginaw 4spd guys
I have always been an automatic trans guy. (I do/have owned manuals but they didn't have any wires hooked to em!)
Anyone know which switch is for the backup circuit on a Saginaw 4speed like this? < The one towards the front of the trans or the Rear>? I know that one is neutral safety switch but which one. I surfed the heck out of the wb but am coming up with nothing? I ahve also tried to test with a multimeter but? No workie? Maybe the switch is bad? Thanks much, -John |

I believe it is the one closest to the linkage cover.

I was referring to the one at the back of the cover. I didn't even notice the one at the front.

Thanks guys. I'll pull it out this weekend and double check it. A new one is only like $6 bucks.... Now I know more about manual trannies. Thanks for enlightening me.

I think the one on the right next to that knob is the reverse one because that knob is for reverse. I'd say the front is the neutral safety switch or whatever.
I have a saginaw 4 spd. and it doesn't have ANY switches lol.

That was my best educated guess because of that too.. It must be bad because the switch never made continuity with the meter. I'll have to get one.. Should be a few buck$ (I hope)

My saginaw looks nothin like that mines the granny 4 speed. I was told its a saginaw but heck i could be wrong. as for the wire i agree with them make sents on my end

I think most of the granny trannys are the sm465 or whatever correct? or a "top loader" since the shifter is on the top of it like a t5 or something.

Yeah most of the granny lows are the sm465s, but as for the wire i agree with them make sense to me as well.

The reverse switch is definitely on the reverse arm. The one on the 1/3 arm is the neutral safety switch.

The front switch is for the TCS (transmission-controlled spark) system, which deactivates the vacuum advance in all gears except 4th. It's a smog device.
