Re: gas price rant

In Ontario (Can) we had a rail strike and a fire at one of the refineries. With in a couple of days the price as over $4.50 a gallon ($1.02 a liter)if you could find it. Stations were closed up or limiting amounts. Before the trouble the gas was at $3.40 a gallon ($.75 a liter). Since the strike ended prices have not gone down but there was a full page ad from Sunoco apoligizing for the trouble and offering a free car wash.....

Re: gas price rant

It isn't the gas companies.
Democrats and environmentalists have made damn sure that we have not built a refinery in over 20 years!! Meanwhile, city gov't, like san fran, have decided that they are chemical engineers and have created custom blends for their areas. Now, instead of a refinery running 3 grades of gas, they have to shut down, purge, and run over 30 specialty blends for different parts of the country. That kills refinery capacity.

Add to that the same groups keeping us from drilling for oil off the coast of the US or in Alaska. Right now, The Cubans are drilling for oil closer to the US than US law allows our own companies to drill!! They got Chinese and Canadian companies doing the work for them.

So if you don't like high gas prices, vote against the enviro-socialists every chance you get.

Re: gas price rant

I paid $3.45 for 91. My IROC and Harley runs on 91. Foutunately the Tahoe take 87. Other than my Harley, all we own have 5.7's. I suppose everyone has there habits though. Mine just happens to be gasoline.

Re: gas price rant

i purchased a diesel dodge in 2003. and have always wanted to drop in the inline 6 cyl diesel in my 53. it can run on biodiesel a product of soybeen oil. trubble is that inline 6 weighs more than 2, 350 v8's.. mind you 325 hp and a 650 torque at 20 miles to the gallon ain't nothing to seeze at. only problem is with all that weight i don't think i could stear

Re: gas price rant

your dodge steers fine, doesn;t it. no reason why it wouldn't work in the '53.

if i hadn't already bought a motor and done the clip job, i would be going diesel, and kept the straight axle up front, and made some brackets for discs.

oh well

Re: gas price rant

You could buy a 6.2 or 6.5 Chevy Diesel with mech. injection pump and they weight about the same as a Big Block Chevy plus the bolt up to the GM Trans. I have a 94 Tahoe 4x4 with the 6.5 Turbo in it and i average 21 mpg town 23 hwy and it has 220,000 miles. Then i have a 99 Tahoe Gas Vortex and it gets 14 town and 19 hwy. The 6.5 is actually quite quiet. Those motors with the turbo boost turned up, marine injectors, and hyper chip can make around 250 to 275 HP and 450 to 500 ft lbs torque. that's what all i have done to mine still running on orig 6.5 motor and 4L80 trans with 220K miles.

my dodge stears like a drunken sailer.. i have 4 f rated tires on it so the sidewalls are so strong i don't need air to keep the rim off the pavement. with those tires it follows all the road seams.... i think that much weight may be too much for the ifs and the powerstearing pump. it would fit though it's a cupple of inches longer than the original 235... today gas is $3.25 diesel is $2.99....

Re: gas price rant

it seems like the wandering and loose steering could be fixed, banks made it work for a road race truck. i know that is a purpose built truck, but it shows me that it can be done:
