Well here's the question, I'm replacing the yoke in my rear-end & need to know if I need to replace the crush sleeve

Also, how much do I torque it to ?

Thanks, Matt

sorry I dont have torque specs... but you don't have to do the crush sleeve, it's located between the housing and pinion gear. It would be a good time to replace the seal though

When you put the yoke back on,tighten the nut until it stops then torque it about an another 1/8 turn or so with a ratchet. DO NOT use an impact gun as this will crush your sleeve. It takes alot to crush the sleeve.

Re: replacing rear yoke, need info ???

I took the posi unit with the ring and pinion and spacers and crush sleeve out of my 67 housing to put into my 5 lug 71 housing the other day and this was the method I was told to do by Pat Austin. Livrat reccomended about 80 pnds. as not to crush the sleeve Thats about 1/2 the torque it takes to crush the sleeve. So basically sinch it up then check it after about 100 miles.

The proper way to do it is to pull the carrier and ring gear and torque the pinion nut until proper pinion bearing preload is obtained. it is very hard to GUESS how much torque is needed on a pinion nut to obtain proper preload in a crush-sleeve application. Esentially you need to torque the nut to the point JUST before the crush sleeve begins to crush again.
