mower hit the shaft....
On the 67-72 parts board there is a listing by Billsbowtie titled "some small parts I still have for sale" On page 3, you can see the damage the mower did to the end of the steering column... I have a 72 3 on the tree column - the one in the picture is from a 72, auto - I am putting in an auto (400) - should my part interchange with the damaged one? Are there different diameters? And, lastly, what gets changed... the fitting on the end or that part of the shaft AND the fitting? Thanks for taking the time to go look and come back! (not having any luck posting pics or editing posts.....).... NOW I CAN EDIT- AND THE NEXT POST HAS THE PIC SO YOU DONT HAVE TO GO LOOK!

If it was me I would heat the bent piece, straighten it out, weld it up, grind it down & use it. Doesn't look like it would affect the integrity of the shaft unless there is more damage than shows in the picture...... LockDoc

Re: mower hit the shaft....
That's what I figured Lock but wasn't sure I'd ever seen an exploded diagram of that part of the shaft..... Didn't know if that might be easier than changing out any of that parts that might be "changeoutable"..... Thanks.

Re: mower hit the shaft....
I wouldnt be afraid to cut off the bent piece and weld up to original shape.
