73-87 crossmember swap

Hey guys, I know there are several threads on swapping a '73 up front crossmember into a '70. But i'm not able to find any in the FAQ's. Could someone please point me in the right direction. Also, can the booster and mc be used from the '78? How many of you have done this and how big of a hassle is it, should i just buy a conversion kit since im going to have to lower it anyway (spindles and springs). Any help would be great. Thanks -Jonathan

Try an advanced search. Plenty of good stuff, you just have to dig for it a little.

Re: 73-87 crossmember swap

a guy i worked with(72 chevy with 454)did just that he used a 75 front cross memberand master cylinder, he said that almost all the holes line up between frames and as for the master cylinder he used he had to modify the pushrod to fit but it all worked great it tracks straight down the road, springs support big block better and it stopped a lot better as well

Re: 73-87 crossmember swap

so what is the advantage using the 73-87 crossmember on a 67-72 rather than just using 73-87 control arms and sterring and bolting all this stuff on a 67-72 crossmember?

Re: 73-87 crossmember swap

I am doing the same swap. I have my 69 frame bare now, and have the 73 frame stripped down to frame. I have had to put it all on hold, terminally ill father in law and unfinished cabin remodeling job. I have to finish the cabin for family who come to visit, and also help my wife with his care. When I get back to my frame, I can send pictures if you have not made the swap yet.
