Brake Booster from yard
I'm sure it's a crap shoot, but what's the odds that a yard brake booster will be any good? Also, what size/manufacturer would be recommended to use? I saw about 3 different sizes today. If nothing else, I'd like to have the brackets off of them. Do any of them sit close to the firewall?

Grab those brackets when you see them..can't have too many of those. Better get the rod from the pedal to the booster too though.
Your right it is a crap shoot to get one out of a wrecking yard. I guess youcould try one, and if it is no good use it as a core at your LFAPS. You can get a reman at Advance for $89 I'm not sure of the best size, or what the original size is for that matter...Ive never measured!

I think I counted 4 sets of brackets and I know at least 2 were still attached to the brake pedal. What would be a good price for the brackets?

theres two sizes of brackets

o boy here we go...
#### need to edit my previous post #### this is where the fun starts this is what i understand (could be wrong) bendix has the long adjusting rod sticking out of its boosters (master has a deep hole) delco has the short rod (MASTER HAS A DIMPLE) BOTH BOOSTERS SHOWN ARE BENDIX BOOSTERS BOTH BOOSTERS 1/2 TON AND 3/4 TON HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTH RODS STICKING OUT THE REAR THUS THE DIFFERENT SIZE BRACKETS THE PEDAL TO THE BOOSTER ROD SHOULD BE THE SAME BETWEEN THE TWO THE MANUAL BRAKE TRUCK .. Go get yourself a Mighty-vac hand pump kit:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=38053 I paid $39 at Sears, but they are cheaper at Harbor freight. It come with an assortment of fittings and bleeder tips. At least one of the fittings will work on the Vac line inlet of the booster. Hook it up and pump it to about 20-25lbs and let it set for a minute. If the Vacuum bleeds down the booster diaphram is shot. These hand pumps are great for doing a one-man brake bled once you install your new system. I have had mine for over 3 years now and it still works great. On a side note: I found a 64-66 brake booster in a wrecking yard for $12 and was able to test it. It held 25lbs for over a minute and I sold it for $50 bucks on Craigslist, it will pay for itself. |

I took my pwr brake set up out of my $200.00 dollar donor parts truck a 71 Chev P/UP. I detailed it, the booster showed no signs of being rusty so I took it that it had already been replaced. (works fine.)
I was always under the asumption that the perportioning valve on the pwr brake set up should be used instead of the manual one. Either will work but they are supposed to be different from each other. I always play it safe and swap every thing over. They appear physicaly different and thats enough of a reason for me to change it. Parts cost free .... I stripped the 71 in about 2 weeks and had the wrecker tow it away ... tow charge free. Sold grill, head light buckets trim parts & got my $200.00 dollars back. This truck was not even for sale just sitting in this persons yard. I asked if they would sell it and the rest is history. esll.
