Re: White soft Top
I'm pretty sure that Softopper is the only company making tops for 1st Gen blazers right now.
They are good guys and it's a good product. I'm very happy with mine.

Re: White soft Top
did anyone ever make a top that you didn't have to poke holes in the truck (including the windshield frame?) it seems like you could maybe take the front chunk from a hardtop, cut it down, then install snaps into it instead of the window frame? then you would just attach it like you would normally attach the top?

Re: White soft Top
Gotta drill holes for all the aftermarket tops. I don't know about the original soft tops, but if you find one, let us know.
Actually, the window frame was the least difficult to drill into because it is either covered by the soft top or the hard top. It was drilling into the tailgate bothered me the most.

Re: White soft Top
I have the dimensions finalized for the Billet brim I'm designing, it's actually
for a Bikini top but could be used / modified to any soft type top, it's going to bolt up to the visor hole and center bracket positions when it's finished, that way you do not have to drill for any snaps in the windsheild frame. AND From West TN

Re: White soft Top
awesome!
let me know when you figure out that tailgate problem... maybe a similar piece to the original screw-on lip where the hatch rests, only taller? that could hold snaps, right?

Re: White soft Top
The tailgate snaps are actually about 1-1.5" below the top of the tailgate. You could probably fab up something that attaches where the hatch stop does but just bends around the top of the tailgate to hold the track for the fast track or the snaps.

Re: White soft Top
Specialty Top Co went out of business about 2 years ago. If you need replacement, you're gonna have to do it yourself or find an upholstry shop to do it.

Re: White soft Top
There is nobody currently making tops for the first Gen blazer. If you found one or have one, take care of it. New vinyl should be fairly easy to have made, but not cheap.
I've got to find someone to do some minor repairs to mine before summer. If anyone knows a good shop in the Seattle/Bellevue area, let me know.

Re: White soft Top
When I found out that Besttop was going to discontinue the top I ordered 2 of them I only need one but might need another one for may next blazer. I dont think I will have any trouble getting my money back if I decide to sell it.

Re: White soft Top
I think it was a fairly save investment. There was someone selling them on ebay who was reported to have 100 of them. I think at least one board member bought one from the seller.

Re: White soft Top
i'm in a revival mood...
I rec'd an email from the Can-Back guys the other day. I wrote to ask if they had intentions of doing a 1st gen top, and here's the response: Quote:
I'm not holding my breath, but I'm at least hopeful... and, if you'd like to help let them know, send the note from their site, http://www.can-back.com/ so we can see some action!

Re: White soft Top
They've been saying they are going to develop a top for first gen blazers in about 6 months for about 6 years. Don't hold your breath. I don't know why they don't just tell the truth that they have no real intention of developing a top for our rigs.

Re: White soft Top
prolly trying to feel out the real interest...
doesn't really seem like there would be that much R&D in one of these... they make them for so many different rigs you'd think they pretty much have it figured out. i see one for the old broncos, etc. that are full-toppers. frustrating...

Re: White soft Top
I think it comes down to marketability. Consider how few first gen Blazers were built, how many have met their demise, how many have soft tops and how many will never have soft tops, and the possible production numbers probably don't work to where they could sell them at a reasonable price.

Re: White soft Top
I'd like to know too, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a softopper. I hate the idea of drilling the truck but not as much as I love the idea of having a soft top so I'll do it if I have to. If I can have a soft top with no drilling that would be GREAT!!!
