I'd like to thank a member

I recently bought a truck from StevenB here on the board. Being as this was my first time importing a truck from the U.S. to Canada I was learning a lot fast. He was great with sending me the paperwork in advance saving me an extra trip, and helping me sort out a Canada customs guy. Great guy to deal with, very honest in his descriptions, and a great truck too. I would recommend dealing with him. Thanks, Dave

I am looking for a truck too and am wondering what problems you may have had with the Canada Customs guy. I have imported some motorcycles into Canada and have never had a problem with Customs.

Thanks for the kind words Dave. Hope you enjoy the truck. Now I can get the 454 in my blazer in time for summer!

Re: I'd like to thank a member

Maybe one of you guys would like to start a thread on the Canada message board...there's probably alot of guys interested in doing the same up here.

I'm curious to know how much it cost to get a truck across the border (including all fees, etc)?

There are only about 3 postings a month on the Canada message board.

It might make a good tutorial in the FAQ section.

I'm interested in hearing details as well (out of curiosity).Although I'm really starting to think that there are no rules and it all depends on what kind of mood the customs fella is in.I've been robbed blind on one order then nothing at all on the next.
Glad to hear it went well for you though.Any pics of the truck?

Re: I'd like to thank a member

I was thinking maybe I would write up all the info I found out and maybe it could go into the faq section. I'm a bit busy at work for a couple days, but will try to do it on sunday or monday. As to the problem with Canada customs, I still am not sure what exactly was wrong. I was telling the story to a friend of mine who used to cross the border trucking quite a bit and he stopped me short. "He said you weren't in the wrong. There are 3 things I don't do a customs and I have never had trouble. Never wear a hat, don't wear your jacket, just go in with your papers and never answer a question with a question." I answered a question with a question.
The first thing everyone asks after you say I'm exporting a vehicle is "how did you find it?" When you say internet, they assume ebay. This guy asked for my printout of my winning bid, and I said what? Then it went downhill with a couple more questions. Long story short, it got sorted.

Customs Officers ,like police, have a lot of discretion when dealing with issues. That is why one Customs guy makes you pay and the other waves you through. A policeman/woman has to prove you guilty of something, where as with a Customs Officer you have to prove you didn't as opposed to them having to prove you did.
