play in the rear axles
i was putting on a set of new tires on yesterday and noticed when i got one of my wheels off, the axles had just a little bit of back and forth play (pushing it in and out, not side to side. is this normal? it is on an 8.5 10 bolt with a 3.73 posi.

Going by what I have experienced there is a little in and out movement. From how the C-Clip installs on the inside of the axle.
IIRC it should only be very minor (MEMORY) No more than a 1/16th to 1/8th of and inch or so, Not much more. Someone else might have a more exact measurement for ya. Side to side which you stated you do not have would be a bigger problem leaning toward axle bearing faliure. I would say your fine as long as there no major movement.
