*RANT* Windshield Replacment
So I went to a windshield replair/replacment shop last week to get quotes to replace my windshield. $45 labor if I brought in my own rubber and windshield.
$250ish if they used thiers. So since I already have the rubber I went out and bought a window out of a clean truck in the local pick and pull. I called the window shop up today and they said that it would be $75 bucks. What gives. All the other places said that they wouldn't put a used window in one of our trucks.

Re: *RANT* Windshield Replacment
I am pretty tempted to do just that. Just makes me mad that they changed the price after I went thru all the work of getting the other window.

Re: *RANT* Windshield Replacment
Yeah it's really not that hard to install yourself. I did my very first one last weekend. Read the FAQ on it.
I have two parts trucks and I cut the best windshield out and installed it in the one I am trying to make a driver. My wife helped and it took about 30 minutes.

but I always wait until a good warm day. I lay the glass out in the sun for awhile, then grease up the string and wham bam. The heat makes the glass a little more forgiving. IMO.

Re: *RANT* Windshield Replacment
I did my without lubrication and at about +5 C/ 40 F, but it was sunny. I laid the rubber out on the hood and then placed the windshield in the rubber, then flipped it up into place and started pushing and pulling.....

Re: *RANT* Windshield Replacment
how bad is your damage?? I own a Windshield Repair biz and usually is it is smaller than a credit card and not all the way thru, we can repair for 45 to 55 dollars. No removal nessacary and takes about 30 mins. Maybe something to look into.

I will have to come look you up next time I'm in Mountain Home, send me a PM next time you have some work that needs done on the truck and I will come and help. No expert, but I enjoy working on these.
