The Rarest Option

I was told by a guy who built the 67-72 trucks that the rarest option was a factory clock? He said he only but in 9 over all 5 years? Anyone have a factory clock in the dash? I wonder where it would go?

Anyone disagree with this being the rarest option? If so what is?

well, if it was an actual RPO, then yeah sure. I've heard this before, but have yet to see one, or any documentation that they were ever installed.

I looked through the options list in the restoration packet i got from GM for my 72, and i don't see it listed as an option. My 71 Impala on the other hand had an optional clock, but it like every other factory clock from that era that i've seen was square, and I can't imagine where in the dash it would've been installed.

Re: The Rarest Option

I don't believe there was such a thing from the factory for 67-72 trucks.
I will believe they exist when I see a UFO drop off bigfoot and he has one in hand.

No clocks offered.I don`t know what I`d call the rarest option.I`d say cruise control comes to mind.I like to look for the rarest combinations of options.

I will keep on the lookout Eric, and send him up with Bruce.

The option I don't see much is the propane engine option, I consider it rare.

The first truck that came to mind when I saw the "I'd like to see the rarest combination of options" post was Jeff's. Damn impressive to see all this stuff on one truck, and a few goofy options too (IE: outlet box and generator). You should take a pic of the "generator" too Jeff, if I remember correctly it was pretty wild looking.

I bet he saw a clock (From a Camaro?) installed by someone in the gauge cluster and thought it was original since it looks so close to factory.

Exactly, I've had a couple guys try to sell me these as OEM before. Looks close but not original for our trucks.

Re: The Rarest Option

IIRC on the grill loops, 67's are steel because they came painted, '68's were aluminum/stainless/shiny/whatever.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but while we're talking about "rare" options, I ran across this on ebay the other day. The guy "says" it is "super rare". and that it is a 1968-72 camaro chevelle am/fm/cassette radio. I said no way, cassette's weren't even available in stores until like the mid 70's or a little later. Didn't stop him from getting close to $200 for it. It looks to me to be a late 70's caprice/big car radio. I called Ausley's Chevelle Parts and they said that code UM2 was an am/fm/8-track but that was all that was available as far as tapes, no cassette.

No in-dash cassettes yet and the only in-dash 8-tracks were factory back then. But,all I ever had were cassette decks since`71 when I started driving.I was the odd man out witha ll the 8-tracks out and I couldn`t understand that since cassettes had it all over on 8-tracks.I knew they sucked and never owned one.

I cant vouch for GM, but Chrysler corp had cassette player/recorders in '70. the only cars I saw them offered in was the Barracuda and Challenger. They had a seperate hand held mic so you could dictate things for your secretary to type up later (thats how it was marketed) they are insanely rare. David

LonghornJeff -- PLEASE post a pic of the power outlet box! It probably isn't the rarest option, but I think it's the rarest "still intact" option. Seems lots of people have them on the glovebox sticker, but I haven't found anyone with it still there.
