The Rarest Option Part #2

what about the over speed buzzer or the 1969--72 low fuel light in the dash

I do have one Question on the 1971--72 truck Modals I've seen for the Outer eye buckets most where alum but lately i've been finding tin or steel ones which trucks got the alum ones and wich ones got the steel ones me i rather have the steel ones cus you can chrome Plate them

One other thing on the 1967--68 grill I've seen 2 kinds as well where the outer trim that is alum i got 2 sets are stainless and one set is metal Not alum which modals did these come on i will re post this on a thread and what year did they stop putting protecto plates on car's and trucks amd didn't they put a few of theser engines in a few 1967--72 shortbed step side beds the 194 4cylender enging with 3 on the tree cus i know they put a lot of them in the 1960--1966 chevy step side and a few fleet sides with the 3 speed overdrives

speed buzzer? mines a 72 and i dont have a low fuel light, just the brake and temp and ive never heard of a 4cyl in these trucks

I have heard that the speed buzzer was an option only on the earlier models. I don't think they were available on 71-72, but I could be wrong.

I believe it was an adjustable meter on the speedometer that would buzz when you hit a certain speed to monitor gas milage.

I've heard plenty of folks talk about the speed warning, and seen several for sale, but not the low fuel light. I'm sure someone who has one (speed warning) is about to chime in.

If there was a 4 cyl, it wasn't in any GM literature. International Harvester did put a 4 banger in some of their light half ton trucks (iirc they were "slant 4" 1/2 of a V8 block), but I've never heard of any GM trucks having a 4 banger.

This is a loaded thread.I know the speedwarning did come with cruise control and I`ve seen 71/72s with it.Never seen or heard of low fuel indicator or 4 cyl.
The headlight bezels were black painted steel in 69/70 and swap with the bright aluminum 71/72s.67/68s had white painted steel or bright aluminum.

The 194 was the smallest of the inline sixes. I'm pretty sure they did not offer it in trucks after 1966.

Never seen/heard of a fuel light, nothing in the GM lit, nothing in the assembly manuals
there was a diesel 4 cylinder... I think a perkins, but that was in P/30 chassis... not in C or K series trucks
The protecto plate was never installed on a vehicle, it's in the waranty booklet.

The diesel engine that was offered in the P-30 Step Vans was the Detroit Diesel 3-53. It was a 3 cylinder 2 stroke diesel. There are rumors that a very few '67 GMC 3/4 tons had Toro-Flow diesels in them. As for the 4 cylinder, Chevy did make a 153 4 cylinder and it was used in the P-10 Step Van and the G-10 'Chevy Van' for a few years, but I have never seen one in a pickup.

Interesting. My 72 Skylark had a speed buzzer. It consisted of a movable needle on the speedo that would buzz once the speed was reached.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that if in fact no '67-'72 trucks were built with 153 4 cylinders or Toro-Flow diesels, I may have the rarest engine option, the GMC 351 V-6. I think the rarest combination would be the 4X4 panels.

351 v6? i beleive its the 305 v6 and it is rare but not the rarest i dont think and it was only in GMC's

I had a friend in the Army he was at Fort Riley Ks, he bought an old olive drab 1972 C/20 from the Army.
The truck was orderd new in 1972 by the US Air Force, some of the options listed on the truck were the same as our civilian trucks, some options listed we did not know what they were.
But two things I do remember listed are PERMANENT COOLANT & PERMANENT BELTS & HOSES !!!

The 305 V-6 was available in GMC pickups from '60 to March of '69. The 351 was available as an option in '66, '67, and '68 (there's one in my driveway!). The 351 used in the 1500/2500/3500 was known as the 351E, and was a modified version of the 351 Magnum used in the 6500/7500/8500 commercail trucks.

monkey... the GMC trucks, up till 68 I think... had an optional 351 V-6 in the CM/KM series trucks. Pretty uncommon.

how about a lwb stepside with lots of options. Only 3% of trucks made in our era were lwb stepsides. Would like to see more of lwb step trucks.

The 4 cylinder engine that GM made in the early 60s is just half a 283. The head is the same, and intake looks like half of a dual plane. They were available in the chevy II. I've seen one. Even rode in the car. It was a little under powered, but perfect for the highs school student that was learning to drive it.
Believe me the guys at the parts counter aren't going to have listed rebuild parts for it. You would have to let them know it's connection to its 8 cylinder brothers.
I can't imagine it would be worth much of anything in a pick-up
