rubber mat ..vs.. carpet?

just when ya think your done!!! well i put exhaust on the truck and it was dyno max turbos , outside they sound great but inside the cab there to loud, is this a sign of old age? well i had a new rubber mat in it but had to pull the seat to put a new sending unit in it, so while i have it out i went ahead and ordered new carpet, i sprayed undercoating on the floor pans also. question is do yall think this will cut down alot on the exhaust or should i spend the extra$$ and get the sound deadner? thanks for any input, im dying to drive this thing and everytime i belive its done something else pops up or breaks etc etc,, of course yall know the story and im waiting on all 4 new drums should be here by weeks end hopefully

I don't know sound wise, but I remember my 91 scottsdale had a rubber floor mat in it rather than carpet. I loved it. If you spilled anything or had dirty shoes, it was the easiest thing in the world to clean. You could almost hose the thing out.

I took the garden hose to my S-10 on many occastions. Gotta love rubber mats.

If you run some pad under the carpet, I think it would help with sound deadening.

I'd go with the sound deadner, It will also cut down on the heat from the road. I put new carpet in my 72 Jimmy without the deadner and the carpet wanted to wrinkle near the hump for the transfer case. I ended up using that silver foil insulation that looks like bubble wrap. It worked great and ended up being cheaper than the factory style insulation.

I also prefer the rubber mats for my trucks. I made the mistake one time of parking my Jimmy outside with the top off when the cottonwoods were blooming. I spent about 3 hours with a shop vac trying to get the seeds out of the (black) carpet!

I agree with Big D. I would put down some could sound deadener under the carpet or mat. In my opinion, rubber floor mats are the way to go. It really just depends on personal preference.

I have the ACC carpet in mine, and it came with a pretty impressive padding on the back side of it. I could tell a noticeable difference from the rubber to the carpet with it. I didn't use anything else. If you can afford the sound deadener though - it's not going to hurt.

I actually put a rubber mat down over the carpet in my C10. The carpet and insulation that was under has made quite the sound deadener! I'm a firm believer in the rubber mats.

I just got back from having a security system installed in my 72. The guy who does the work does alot of audio/video, and is a big proponent of Dynamat.

He told me his cost for one box,( enough to do a regular cab like mine) is $130 a box. Plus his time to sit there, measure, cut and install it all.

My question.... If I have my truck sent out for a spray in bed liner, what if i had the same material put on the bare metal surfaces all in the cab and doors?

Has anyone tried or thought of this approach? That stuff has to offer some decent sound deadening and its definitely going to protect the metal ( albeit permanently) plus its going to be alot easier/cheaper to apply.

Unfortunately, there are many choices for sound deadener. ONe of the newest ones, which is pretty popular right now is SecondSkin Audio (http://www.secondskinaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi). SecondSkin has different types of deadener, both the stick and spray type, in different thickness and grades. I am thinking about doing my current project truck with the Sprectum and Damplifier. If I get to that point, I will let you guys know how it works.

humm thats a good question tom, and for 130 bucks id have to do that job myself, hopefully my carpet will be in soon and i can find out how it does guess i could do like see ten and put my mat back down on the carpet, yea im like the most of yall likin the rubber mat but, i do like to hear my radio i guess after i change my gears it may be alil better, 455 gears plus loud mufflers =radio full blast ,

sounds great topnos, we will be waiting to see what it works like, my carpet hasnt came in yet, think im just gonna put the carpet in and drive this thing this summer then winter time i can pull it back apart if its not like i want it, thanks for yalls input
