Hey i'm going with the impala rear disk on my 72 and was wondering where everyone was buying drilled and slotted rotors for both the front and rear? Thanks in advance

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
I have purchased the Summit brand cross-drilled and slotted rotors for both the front and back (72 C10 front, 96 impala ss rear). I haven't installed them yet though. Look to be pretty nice pieces, but they have the potential to rust into some ugly mothers. Still can't beat 'em for the price though!

I did get the fronts installed last night, I'll take some pics tonight. They're hard to see through my 15" cragar street stars, but hopefully those will be gone pretty soon. I'm going to try to mock up the rear brakes this weekend. Here is a shot of a front rotor from awhile back: Last edited by Alvin; 05-03-2007 at 10:17 AM. |

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
It looks like Summit and CPP sell the same ones. I was asking because CPP shows these with more slots and holes. How much are the Summit and the CPP fronts

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
has anybody here actually used slotted rotors? I had PowerSlots on a late model daily driver and after a while, the slots would create a noise (I'm not going to try to explain it) under hard braking. For my '69 project, I went with regular rotors. I actually think the regular rotors look better on these old trucks anyway. IMO, the drilled and slotted look too sporty on these trucks.

They would have to make some kind of noise under "hard braking" to remove the heat and gases. Guess I was wrong Last edited by BigTruckDriver; 07-20-2007 at 11:54 PM. |

please explain ... My position that they make no more noise than a conventional rotor comes from the experiences that I have had with cross drilled rotors. I have owned several different vehicles with them and have never noticed any more noise versus a conventional rotor. Under hard braking or otherwise. This includes a couple of race/motorsports applications. Last edited by Shane; 07-26-2007 at 02:56 PM. |

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
I wonder if you taped off most of the contact surface and sprayed the holes and the slots with hi temp if it would help? Then when you did your first stop it would take the overspay off and leave the holes and slots the color.. You would have to clean the rotor really well to get the paint to stick cause they are greased from the factory right?

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
Look for cadmium or zinc plated rotors. No rusty...

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
Yeah, I think I'm okay with the rust for now. At least the rotors will match the body!

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
I bought my front and rear setup from CPP. The front was pretty cheap. The rear was a little more but i love the way they look. The front is 12" and the rear is 11 3/4" give or take an 1/8th.

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
So what kind of rear kit did you get for your truck and is that for a 10 or 12 bolt?

I'll post some pictures of what I've got so far tonight. *edit* Can't see much, and I didn't have time to take the wheel off. I'll try to get some better pics sometime in the next couple of weeks. I'll have the rest of the parts for the rear brakes, and some 17" wheels to show them off. Last edited by Alvin; 05-07-2007 at 09:36 PM. Reason: added pics |

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors
Alvin,
You bought the exact same rotors (from Summit) that I have. Look at the bottom of the rotor in your second picture. See anything "strange". Hint: 3-2-3 holes versus 3-3-3 between all of the otherslots. I thought mine were the only ones, but looking at yours... not so. No biggie, just an observation. I'm doing the Impala SS rotors (probably from Summit, as well) with the Camaro calipers (using the brackets from glock35ipsc). Are you using the Impala or Camaro calipers?

I was going to use the Impala calipers, but I never got around to purchasing the calipers and stuff. Just paid for the Camaro caliper brackets last week. I like the idea of having an e-brake. It's just not worth taking the chance after working on this thing for 5 years. I've since changed the look on the front end a little bit as well. Stripped the red paint off the calipers, ground down all the numbers and humps on the face (smoothed out very nicely), and painted them black. Looks pretty cool; almost like an aftermarket caliper. I'll have pics if I ever get them put back together. |
