cab removal

What do you guys think is easiest way to remove a cab off frame. I have been using camper jacks but is still a pain. I know I could make a A frame, but I would like something simple without bringing in all the neighbors to help. Thanks for any info and replies. Ernest

Re: cab removal

If you have a engine hoist some chain and a 4x4 it can be done rather easily

Re: cab removal

Here's how I lift mine. Welded a bolt to the top of my engine hoist with the threads sticking up. Drilled a hole in the middle of a 4X4 to sit over the bolt (so it doesn't slide off). Stuck a 2X4 in the domelamp hole and out the windshield opening. Works perfect as long as the windshield and dome lamp are out. Other wise Rokcrln has some plans for a better unit if you plan to use it regularly.

Re: cab removal

I used four 3/8" eyebolts in the holes where the cab was mounted, some chain and and an engine joist.

Re: cab removal

I made a trailer out of longbed frame I had. When I cut front frame section off, I drilled holes to match my seat mounting holes. I bolted them on so they stuck out about a foot on each side. Then I used my camper jacks and lifted it straight up. I will post pics when I drop the oter one back on. Worked like a charm!

Re: cab removal

I used a floor jack and 4 jack stands. Took me a while cuz i didn't want to tilt the cab too far to one side. I set the frame on some home made dollies I made and rolled it under the cab. Then I jacked the frame up to the cab, bolted it on, did a little more jacking and moved the jack stands from under the cab to under the frame rails. I was gonna take pics of this but my digital camera decided it was tired of working. One thing about this though, I wouldn't recommend this unless you plan on replacing the outer rockers. There are some nice little dents from the jack stands now. I needed to replace them anyway and I figured that would happen so it didnt really matter to me.

My favorite method, cab and front clip in one piece.

Re: cab removal

One more quick word of advice. DON'T wrap a strap through the doors and over the room then use a hoist to lift it from the strap. The guy I bought it off of did this. He had it in the air when i showed up to load it. It almost fell over too since he didnt extend the legs on his cherry picker. Now I have to straighted the drip rails. I'm just glad he didn't crack the windshield.

Re: cab removal

I bought a HF 110 v 880 lbs winch & mounted it on some 4x6 8'-beams in the attic of the garage. Then I made some mounts that bolt into the factory hood hinges to hook my straps to. It's stationary but works & when i'm done with it I just motor it up into the attic, close the trap door & out of the way.
Dave.
