New to the truck scene.
I'm Jason, from Medford, Or. My cousin, and uncle have had a few 67-72 pickups, and I've always wanted one.
I was at school 2 weeks ago, surfing craigslist, and came across the very first ad, "1968 GMC pickup $500"... Well crap, I click on it, and see what looks to me a seemingly straight rust free 68 GMC 2wd pickup... So I go out in the hall and call the phone number. The guy says he's leaving for work in about 30 minutes, but if I hurry I can see it. So I tell the teacher I'm leaving, I'll see him tuesday, and head to the guys house which just happend to be down the street from the school... Got there, checked it out. The guy says it's an original 300hp 327, but now that I've torn into it, I highly doubt it. It's got 70cc heads, and dished pistons, but the numbers say it is a 327... 300hp? It originally had a 3 on the tree, but someone replaced that with a 4 on the floor. I doubt it. It's super straight, and in pretty decent condition, so I give the man $450, and tow it home a couple days later. Got it home, got it to run, and it had some flat cam lobes. So I put a new cam & lifter set in it, new water pump, got some 64cc camel hump heads, a performer intake, and Performer manifold for it. I'm currently in the process of putting the previously mentioned parts on it. I'm not new to old cars, I have had a 71 Chevelle, that I tricked out over a 7 year period, and now have a 68 Chevelle that I'm working on. The goal for this truck is to have a sharp looking, dependable daily driver!

Re: New to the truck scene.
Oh yeah... I forgot the pictures!
Hopefully it will be painted black in the near future, with some nice wheels. In theory a 1" drop on the front, and whatever it takes to make the back match it.

Re: New to the truck scene.
Back usually needs 2 inches more than the front to sit level.

Re: New to the truck scene.
Thanks for the tip... I've been working on putting the heads on today, and while looking at the truck, I think it needs more than a 1" drop in the front, and I think I would like a slight rake to it, maybe 1-2" higher in the rear?
But I don't want to go so low to as it won't be useful as a truck. I still want to be able to go down a dirt road when the time comes, etc. Know what I mean? I also plan on shaving the side marker lights, and I would like to get a different gas tank and shave the gas hole on the cab. We'll see though... I hope to be able to take this truck to Kool April Nites next year.
