new guy
hi,
my name is nolan and i just joined this forum because i recently purchased a chevy truck. the truck i bought is a 1969 C10 Custom. the truck still has its factory 4 barrel 350 small block (240 hp), th400 trans, has factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes and trim moulding. the truck has rust in the cab corners and the rockers are rusted gone and has a little rust around the rear wheel wheel wells, but other than that it is solid. i'm 17 and still in high school, is it possible to build a truck like this on a budget? i will do all of the mechanical work, but a shop will do the bodywork and paint. |

Re: new guy
Welcome from MD!!
You can definately build on a budget. Just write down all of the things that need to be done, and tackle them one at a time when you have the funds. Search the parts board daily for deals on the parts you need, and dont get discouraged!!

Re: new guy
i've already learned a lot from these trucks, one of them is that the th400 rear seals are prone to leaking, (i know because i had to replace mine.)

Re: new guy
welcome to the board.
why have someone else do the body work? learn to do it yourself and save a couple bucks while giving yourself another skill at the same time. That's what i'll be doing this fall. |

Re: new guy
i had tried doing bodywork before and it turned into a nightmare, 4 years later i was still doing bodywork and i actually made the car look worse. i'm great at the mechanical aspects of it, but i shouldn't be allowed near bondo. thats why i would rather have a professional do it and do it right.

Re: new guy
Trust me you can do it on a budget and make it look nice. Just spend the money on the parts you need to make it run, stop, and safety items. Then spend the money on the "bling." Junkyards and this parts board are great places to save some money. It sounds like your not afraid of work, which will also save you some money.

Re: new guy
to the board you will love this place.
I think it's great that all you young guys are into these old trucks You can do it on a budget, Here's a LINKY to my 14 year old nephew's truck he's doing on a tight budget. He does have a lot of labor help but the money is almost all his baby with a little help here and there. Ya sound like a young man with his head screwed on straight (that has a nice truck ta boot) to me don't get frustated and you will be fine IMO. Keep us posted and keep up the GR8 work. RJ22
