Re: 700r4 behind 250
Shouldn't be any different than having a manual tranny in there. The bellhousing should bolt right up.

Re: 700r4 behind 250
Shouldn't be any different than bolting it to a 350. As long as you get that thing tuned right, you should be getting some killer gas mileage.
Not to mention, that 3.06 first gear will get you off the line really well. |

Re: 700r4 behind 250
Why don't you try to find a 4.3 v6 with a 700r4 and put it in your truck.

Re: 700r4 behind 250
hooking up the TV cable will probably be a real PITA, and it is crutial to letting the tranny live for more than a year.
IMO, a stock, well tuned 350 will probably do about the same MPG wise. There's a few ppl who get lucky and claim 25 MPG or something crazy... but moving your rig through the aire kills the MPG regardless of what you have pushing it. You'll probably get better MPG rewards by getting the carb dialed in perfect, and learning to drive like a little old lady. |

Re: 700r4 behind 250
Instead of the 700R4 swap, you could also swap over either a 200R4 which is the same length as a TH350shortshaft(what our trucks take) or talk to NitroMike... He is running an I6 wtih a T-5 tranny behind it. He said he likes it a lot...
A 307 is often underrated, but they do get EXCLELLENT gas milage... That is another option to consider... L8R - Joe

Re: 700r4 behind 250
the suggestion of the 4.3 sounds like the avenue i would take.... i have never been able to get any gas mileage from the inline 250.

Re: 700r4 behind 250
little old lady...yea thats not gonna happen unless i run the 6.the thing is i just put a cam, carb, intake, rockers, lifters, and headers on it so.. at least i'll have a nice motor for my dad's.
hmmm, forgot about the tv cable, i'm sure i can rig something up though. yea joe i thought about the t-5 but i'd rather have the auto. not to mention i already have 2 700r4's and a th350.

Re: 700r4 behind 250
im sure its possible to rig up a tv cable... it just may be a pain cuz the carb linkage is like sidways compared to a normal 4bbl on a small block

Re: 700r4 behind 250
Just a fwiw TCI just came out with a new valve body for a 700r4 that makes TV cable adjustment much less critical. Its part # 376020 if your interested. I just so happened to recieve mine yesterday.

Re: 700r4 behind 250
I do love my Tremec .64 high gear 5 speed behind my 250. Got 20.5 MPG going to and from jc's. And shifting is still fun when you don't have to do it every day. If I drove this truck everyday it would have a 700r4.
