Leaf Springs Shot?

How do you tell if leaf springs are shot? My front leaf springs on my 72 K20 are flat across and look tired. but is there any sure fire way to tell if you need new ones? Are they supposed to have any arch to them?

Re: Leaf Springs Shot?

From what I undersand, the spings on the front were intentionally made a little flat. Mine are the same way. I know that someone else will chime in.

Re: Leaf Springs Shot?

I could tell mine were shot because they were cracked...I wouldn't have cared if they were or not thought because with the lift kit came 4 new springs.Do you plan to lift the truck?
I heard the stock front springs were supposed to have a "frown" to them.

Re: Leaf Springs Shot?

No, If I replace them I'm going to get stock ones, but they are so expensive. Looks like upwards of $350 for a pair. Eatonsprings.com looks like the best place.

Re: Leaf Springs Shot?

Here are a picture of mine. They look like they are saging a little.

I got new ones made from a local shop for the front and rear for around 600.00 total with about 2 inches of lift and new u bolts.

I will be putting them on in a few weeks

Re: Leaf Springs Shot?

my k-10 has HD springs (3 each) and they are flat....just the way they should be as far as I can tell. You can do an add-a-leaf for $75 if you want a little lift and stifness in them,,,
