Re: gas tanks
My 70 GMC had an aux tank mounted under the rear bench seat. Judging from the way it was plumbed and the fit and finish of the interior trim around the filler tube I believe it was a dealer added accessory. I don't really recomend driving around with 30gal of fuel under the kiddies.

Re: gas tanks
My 72 sub has a 50 gallon tank the PO had installed, he was a member of an Air-stream travel club. i have the paper work and schematic of it, it is in stock location and the gas gauge works(kinda). it looks good and has the paper work for it so somebody was making them, i will take pictures after work and post them, along with the schematic and re-paint pictures.

Re: gas tanks
I have one of those old bolt-thru-the-floor 50 gal tanks on one of my burbs. AFAIK, they were aftermarket tanks probably available thru JCW and such at the time. That they hang low with no skid plate pretty much requres a hitch for protection if not a custom skid plate. They have no baffles so all that fuel sloshes around a lot. 50 gallons overwhelms the old, tired, original springs, especially on half tons. That's resolvable with custom springs or even add-a-leaves.
Still, they fit like a glove and hold a bunch of fuel for long range trips. They're made of ~16ga steel. Definitely not sheet metal, whatever the true gauge. If you want one, try a wanted ad here in the classifieds or on ebay. I've seen them for sale. Expect to have to treat and seal the inside to prevent rust particles and gelled gas from ruining your trucks tighter fuel passages. Great pics and measurments, prairewolf. ![]()

Re: gas tanks
I don't know if you have found one of these tanks yet or not, but I just took one out of my sub. I am in AZ. Let me know if you are interested in learning more about mine.
