Looking for tilt steering column...Any recommendations?
I would like to put a tilt steering column in my 70 Blazer and would like one that is probably already remanufactured/rebuilt so that I could basically just have it installed by someone. I currently cannot do the work physically, so I would like something that would not cost an arm and a leg to have installed with additional modifications and/or upgrades.
I came across this one at Brother's and was wondering if anyone else has used it, if it is any good, or if there are any other places/suggestions you could recommend to look for one that is ready to install like this one: http://brothersonlinestore.com/prodi...number=RTSC72A Thanks guys for any feedback and help on this. |

New or remanufactured/restored. Basically something that does not need anything done to it other than installation with the exception of adding the shifter/turn signal etc. Thanks.

Go stock.
Will be the simplest install of them all. Search the board or evil-bay, you'll come across one soon enough. |

with going stock. Check the Parts board, I've seen some nice units sold by some of the board vendors.

Re: Looking for tilt steering column...Any recommendations?
All you need is an original TRUCK (67-72) column and specify if you want one for an automatic or 4 speed (which is much harder to find). Expect to pay around $250.-$350. for a good original in excellent operating condition. Some guys, especially on e-bay try to sell a Van tilt as a truck tilt ---it is not the same, doesn't warrant the high price, and is easy to tell the difference if you know what to look for. I usually sell my truck tilts on the board or on e-bay and guarantee them to be as described. Can usually be swapped out in about an hour. Huck

Re: Looking for tilt steering column...Any recommendations?
yeah, after market and new condition stock columns seem to be priced quite close to each other. so it just depends on what look your going for. I installed a flaming river 30" and recessed it to the tilt for more leg and arm room. -steve

Re: Looking for tilt steering column...Any recommendations?
If you can get an original truck tilt completely rebuilt, like the one in the Brothers link, for low $400's, it's worth it, in my opinion. You can go to ebay, or wherever, and spend $250 or so, plus shipping, for a used one that may or may not need to be rebuilt and refinished. By the time you buy a new turn signal switch for $35, plus the bearings, which will probably run you another $50, plus the paint to refinish the thing, not to mention your time..........
I bought one that had been completely redone. I think I paid $400 for it, plus shipping. That thing showed up and was showroom beautiful. Really, really nice, inside and out. Ready to bolt right into the truck. It seemed like a lot of money to me at the time, but when I did the math, it was pretty close to a wash and it saved me a LOT of time. Those tilt columns take some time, effort and parts to rebuild and if you are going to go through the time to put in a new column, I would highly recommend rebuilding it and putting in a new switch. Just my opinion.
