What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

I had to work this weekend so I didn't get much truck related done. I detailed my daily drivers on Saturday, then it rained. I went to my daughters 15th birthday party in the evening. She took a large group of her friends to a dinner theater to watch Pirates of the Caribbean III.

Today I went to church, then detailed my drivers, and it rained again. I got the 77 out for a while to show my neighbors Dad. I spent the rest of the day working in the yard. After that I detailed my daily drive AGAIN.

Please take a moment to remember the military men and women that have given their time to support our awesome country

The wife and I spent the weekend in Duluth/Two Harbors celebrating our second anniversary. Here are a couple pic...one of where we stayed, one of Gooseberry Falls, one of Split Rock Lighthouse, and the last of the lift bridge in action in Duluth.

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

Pulled the engine and trans out of my 78 Silverado and put it out to pasture. Still got a bunch of parts to strip off of it but this was the biggest step.

On The 77 Sierra, I installed Monroe Gas Magnum shocks on all four corners and put the BFG Radial T/A's and American Racing chrome 10 hole rims from the 78 on it. The tires are basically brand new. Handles much better now.

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

All I accomplished truck-wise was on Sat morning I reamed the hole to allow the air fitting on the drivers side rear airbag for my 68. Just as I was finishing up the hole.... the rain started & has continued since!!

Maybe tomorrow it will clear up long enough to take advantage of the long weekend (my GF has enjoyed the quality time together in the house though).

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

Well let's see. I got the new Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS carb installed last week. Had to redo my AN stainless braided hose. Had to order the dual fuel inlet for the carb. Got all the fuel line stuff taken care of. Midway through all this I decided to put stainless braided hoses on the power steering. Waiting on a fitting to get here to finish that up. Along with the fitting is some other very nice shiny pieces to be shown at a later date. Some will like them, some won't.

I have been working on misc things for a few days. Today I changed the oil and swapped out the tranny pan I have had fixed up for awhile. I had a fitting brazed in the old one for the temp gauge and it has always leaked a little. So, a long time ago I brazed in another one myself and it didn't leak. Had to fix a driveshaft leak at the weep hole. Got tired of it always leaking decided to solder the weep hole up and get rid of the leak once and for all.

Other stuff was spent removing all the emblems, hood ornament, drip rails, mirrors etc. to get ready for primer. I plan on getting guy who lives right up the road from me to do some body work and put it in primer for me. We shall see how that turns out. Got my wheels and tires off and the truck sitting on jack stands right now. I have got to spend a few hours polishing up the TTII's. Can't wait for that. I love polished billet but dang, that stuff ain't made for a lazy man.

Feels good to finally be able to add something to one of these threads.

Dang Mike, it sounds like you got a lot of stuff going on there buddy. You might want to consider one of those Powerball kits. I just saw a recent thread on how well they did an old set of Eagle wheels in GD. I went looking for one today but couldn't find one.

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

I thought about working on my rig does that count? I however unseized the sbc thats in my boat. Piston ring got hung up but after several weeks of soaking in penetrating lube and some gentle persuasion she broke loose and now she purrs like a kitten. Thats what I get for not putting her in the water for almost five years.

Hey Jeff those pics are very familiar. Gooseberry falls is a very special place for me and the wife. Been to Duluth many times, stayed at the South Pier Inn next to the aerial lift bridge before. Going to Bluefin Bay fathers day weekend. When I get the '78 Bonanza runnin I'd love to take her on the North Shore drive in the fall for the colors.

Yes, that would be a lot of fun! We took the scenic North Shore route on the way home from Two Harbors...it was a blast, lots of cool old stuff to see.

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

I pulled my front diff off today, gonna start re-building it once I get home from my first shift at work next Wednesday. Gonna be bringing home about 500 bones after 50% of my pay is taken by my wonderful government =/

Also stopped and looked at an 86 3/4 ton 4x4. The price is right, and its in reasonably good condition, runs great etc, but needs an out of province inspection, which scares me a bit...

Nothing to car related. Been raining all damn weekend. Hoping to go check out a mid '80s camaro this week that might be for sale. Helped my bro and his friends get all their stuff together for a camping trip they took. The suns finally poking out for a little.

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

Tore off the stock brackets and accessories on my truck. Starting putting on the serpentine kit, ran to every parts store and hardware store looking for a fitting to rerun fuel line, still no luck. Got the power steering lines on, hope no leaks...
Had a couple ideas on how to mount the ls1 fans, just gotta go find some 1x1 aluminum angle...should be fun the next week or two. Wife and kids are due back anytime now from disney. I missed them.
Watched the ufc fight saturday night with some friends. Other than that, pretty much stayed in the garage, did not even get yard work done.

Installed a new power steering pump, water pump, belts, and lower radiator hose on Saturday and Sunday. Today I'm going to replace the front seat in my dad's Jeep and figure out why my drivers-side window wont roll down.

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

I tore down the rear brakes on the 84 friday afternoon, took the drums down to have them turned. Found the pass. side wheel cylinder to be blown, and the driver's front shoe down to the rivets, and ground a couple rivets even.

Went four wheeling the rest of the weekend on my atv, then a cookout after putting on the new brakes today.

Put on the new wheel cylinder after finding the one I bought friday wouldn't fit, have to take it back tomorrow, then put on the new shoes and freshly turned drums, and bled the brakes. now I gotta test drive and go get fuel, she's on 1/8 right now

Re: What did you get done? Memorial day edition.

Moved into an apartment in Killeen, Texas.

Started my job as a platoon leader in A Co, 2-26 Infantry.

Been settling in and finding my way around Texas... everything is way too far apart down here, especially considering the gas prices.

My truck is in my parents' garage in NC waiting to get shipped out here. The rear main seal is starting to leak, as is the water pump, power steering, and valve cover seals. It's also been running way rich. Perhaps it's just the carb tune or maybe some vacuum line issues, not sure...

I have some serious work planned for it once it makes it out west...
1. Tune up to fix the rich condition and idle
2. Replace all major seals and fluids so as to zero the truck maintenance-wise
3. Tear out exhaust and headers; coat the headers if they're still good, otherwise get new ones. Flowmaster mufflers and a hidden exhaust exit will replace the cherry bombs and sidepipes
4. Fix the horn
5. Fix the AC and get it on 134 coolant
6. Fresh shocks
7. Chrome the rear step bumper
8. Fix dash clock
9. Fix the lock mechanism on the tonneau cover
10. If there's any cash left over (yeah right), look into a professional paint restoration... doubtful on that one though.
