I just use my home-made sand blaster.It works...I use silica sand in it...Come down and try it out

silica sand here too . i have a made in china standing cabinet i got off ebay a couple years ago and a hand held gravity fed Mac tools speed blaster .

I agree the Harbor freight box needs the tube and gun upgrades, like Shane did. Mine did not come with sand.

I use playground sand from Home Depot at 2.50 for a 50 pound bag in a tank blaster. The only problem I have is my compressor providing enough air flow, I spend most of my time waiting for pressure to build in the tank.

I have the Harbor Freight cabinet that I use glass bead in and a home made pressure blaster that I use the silca sand in. Both do a good job for me...

Harbor Freight cabinet but upgraded the pickup tube and gun to one of the TP Tools units ... works great! We use glass beads in it.

I Did Get It From Harbor Freight I Used The Sand It Came With I Dont Know What It Is It Says 125? On The Side Of The Box Seems Like It Is Really Fine

The playground sand would be good, but the glass beads do what I need for the aluminum items that I have cleaned up. The steel items would best done with the sand. I also access to a bigger cabinet at the machine shop and that one is a real blast to use.

I’m using brown aluminum oxide in mine #60 grit, & works good.
I’ve used glass before and its good too.

Can anyone shed light on SILICOSIS? I had read somewhere (and can't find it again) that using silicon sand can cause a respitory disease (silicosis). I also recall something about fresh air supplied respitory equipment was required to use it safely as it would pass through "cheapy" set ups. I DO NOT KNOW if any of this is true but I read it somewhere and I'm still looking for confirmation.
As I have been trying to find out more, I've used Black Diamond (I thought it was fairly cheap compared to the scarring on my belly from the wire wheel! HA!)

If you use silca sand MAKE SURE you use a very good respirator! That stuff is nasty
I use 80 grit garnet in blast cabinet, which still is not the safest but not as nasty as silca.. about the best one to use is glass beads but the cost is quite a bit more..

Section 7 on the MSDS (first link) says it all for me....

U.S. Silica Company materials should not be used for sandblasting.

I use garnet as well. I have a few different grits depending on what I need done. I was going to buy a Harbor Freight setup until I saw how easy it was to build one. So I just made it a bit larger, bought some replacement gloves, got some plexi out of the scrap bin at Applied Materials (free) and made my own. I think the total cost was about $130 and it works well.

I use an older Eastwood blasting cabinet; I think it was around $200 unassembled. I've done some upgrades here and there. I use mostly aluminum oxide, but I'm looking for other recommendations. I swap for glass bead for aluminum stuff - but swapping media is a pain :/

I always hook up my shop vac to the cabinet when I'm using it to create negative pressure in the cabinet and keep junk out of the air. I then strain the stuff that ends up in the vac and reuse it.

Not sure that was any value add to the thread...but thought I'd jump in
