I'm 17 and I'm addicted to hot rods. Okay... the first step is admitting that I have a problem! I want to know about all the old school things that guys did to customize their truck, you know like blue dots, frenching the antenna/lights etc. Old school tips and tricks? This could be a pretty cool thread if we can get it going... even if they're just ideas. Cheap mods are the best but anything that's cool. Post pics if possible.

well i just turned 21 and I agree that it would Id love to learn about using lead, and other neat stuff like that

All this "Old School" stuff died-out in the early`60s before these trucks came out.Things went from "Customs"(old school) to performance in the`60s with the musclecars.There`s a new blending of custom touches in metalwork slipping back into the scene,some "old school" and some new.I could give a list of all the mods guys did,but I personally don`t feel it fits these trucks.I don`t mind seeing it,just not my bag.

I was 5 or 6 yrs old in the late 60's, we lived on a small farm, 15 acres, we still own it....... anyway, my fondest memories ( car wise ) are watching my older brothers work on all there own stuff, we had a tree that a chain hoist was usually hanging from that was used to pull and swap motors, what is left of that tree is still there,it is one of the coolest things about the place.

Old School for me is watching how you could take a V-8 out of a 55 or 56 pontiac safari wagon ( my Grandpas car ) and it bolted right into a 56 GMC pickup, the truck had a manual trans so it was pull started and driven to the black top i think so they could do burn-outs, lol

The other old school stuff I remember is blue jeans and plain white t-shirts.
Also that the orginal Coke (soda) would work good to clean engine parts.

old school pretty much was phased out by the muclecar era of the 60's// it's hard to have someone teach you lead work cause most died off young with lead poisoning//going to the dump stripping out abandoned cars and figureing out how to modifey the parts for you needs without detailed computer readouts of the procedure is old school//
a great start for old school is your local library / read books its all in there from the 30's-60's
