Setting timing with cam advanced

Is there any tricks to setting the timing when you advance a cam, the one in my motor is 2 degrees, and I have been having a tuff time getting it right, I should go buy a light, I got a vacume gauge.

Thanks

Taylor

Advanced/retarded cam shouldn't make ignition timing any harder to set, and if all you have is a vacuum gauge, go for it. You want the highest vac reading @ idle, with the steadiest needle.
Drive it, after setting the timing as above, listening for knock/ping/ under acceleration. If knock is heard, back off timing a little.
A timing light is good investment, but maybe one could be borrowed, or even rented if $$$$ is tight.
