76 gmc heavy half questions
I just bought a 76 gmc heavy half for $350.00. I needed the motor. The truck body is in rough shape, but interior is sweet. Alot of custom work done to this truck. Anyone know about these trucks? what original equip came with them? It has a 350/350 combo and the rear end is a 12 bolt. Dont know if its a posi or not. Thats all I know about the truck but would like to know more if anyone knows. Thanks

gmc heavy half and chevy big 10 are heavier GVW trucks, they have usually 6200lb sticker on door and therefore sneak past the gov't cat converter requirement and flal into the 3/4 otn emissions bracket, but by 79 the go'vt cuaght up to gm and that ended he big 10 and heavy half model.
both trucks ony differ in that they have heavier front spring rating and 8 leaves in rear pack and have the 2.75" wide rear sghoes and wider front rotors nothing else differs, go to chevytalk.com to find out anything els,e but there isnt really any more to know my 78 big 10 was 350/th350/12 bolt 3.07 i have pics of a super low mileage mint shape all original big 10 that was on eBay, if i can find my SPID lable i saved off mine i could tell you the RPO package code, i saw a GMC heavy half for the first time just two days ago, its a shortbed 2wd, alot more big10s were made than heavy halfs good luck Last edited by Fast68Chevy; 09-15-2002 at 04:10 PM. |

Could you please post a picture of what a bad body looks like in Texas? When I bought my 4x4 '75 chevy for $400 here in Minnesota, there was a rust hole in the floor about the size of a watermellon. If you look at this picture along the upper edge you'll see a '85 chevy that is very rusty. http://www.boreal.org/~kimball/magnum.jpg

bradshop: I agree. I see one bad dent at the back of the box and thats it. I can clearly see I live in the wrong state. I'm just trying to get an idea of what Texas people call bad shape, there is no other way for me to find out except asking truck people on this board.
