Dumb Question!!!
How do you know if a truck is a longhorn. Is it what the bed is made of (wood or metal)?
I know this is a dumb question but I don't know. |

Re: Dumb Question!!!
They have a seam on the side of the bed towards the front, easiest way for me to identify them. I think they are 6" longer than a standard longbed.

The bed floor on all Longhorns that I have seen is wood.

Re: Dumb Question!!!
So that would make the bed 102" long correct?

Re: Dumb Question!!!
A longhorn (which is what I have) has an 8 1/2 foot long bed.
Regular boxes are about 6 feet long.

Re: Dumb Question!!!
That's 8 1/2 feet measured on the outside from the front where it mates up to the back of the cab, to the tailgate. Your probably thinking of 8 feet being the inside of the box.

Re: Dumb Question!!!
You either have the seam or not....right?....that's the dead giveaway without taking out a tape measure.

Re: Dumb Question!!!
Where's Longhorn Man when you need him?? Longhorns have a seem that is visible from the front outside of the bed near the cab. It's obvious from this seam that it's a Longhorn. The Longhorn nameplate would help too, if it's on the truck.

Re: Dumb Question!!!
The Longhorn's 8 1/2 foot cargo box was engineered for extra support along its entire length. A 1971 C20 Longhorn is shown. Note the vertical line on the Fleetside's box just behind the cab; that's how much extra length was added to the regular 3/4-ton's box.

Re: Dumb Question!!!
One other thing, From what I have been told all Longhorns were 3/4 or 1 ton trucks . No half tons were available as a longhorn.

Re: Dumb Question!!!
Check out the link in my siggy.
A longhorn is built on a one ton frame, theycame in C/20, and C/30 designations, but both still had the one ton frame. The wheel base is 133 inches, rather than the 127 or a regular long wheel base. As mentioned, 6 inches was added to the front of a normal lwb fleet side bed. No added supports or anything, just the same LWB fleet side that came on C/10, and normal C/20 trucks. All longhorns had wooden floors inside the bed all longhorns had leaf springs out back No longhorns were 4 wheel drive Other than that, they were just like any other truck. |
