Interesting Comparison

I was looking thru CraigsList and ran across this 67' SWB Dodge. Kinda interesting to look at what Dodge was doing in 67' and it's obvious how much better looking our Chevy's and GMC's were, IMHO.

Time, money, attention to detail and a lot of love and almost anything can look sweet ----------

Look at whats happened with the godawful Mopars people were turning down as projects in the 80's that now fetch big coin everywhere --- now a 318 equipped Satellite goes for 10 grand --- the nerve

Re: Interesting Comparison

Those Dodges got da funk!!They are an unlikely rod. When done up,they really surprise people. They are non existant in my area in any form.As far as comparing to GMs,that body style ran from`61 to`71.So,it`s more like along the lines of a`60 to`66 GM.Here`s my old`69 Power Wagon with`68 hood...

Agreed Chevy had the styling thing locked up for a long time.

(I do like the 74-78 Ford trucks better than that vintage Chevy, though )

Re: Interesting Comparison

Chrysler has always been kinda out of the game when it comes to styling(among other things). But,these were the first modern all-incorporated bodys and back then they wanted it`s truckiness/bigger betterness to show through.Look at the trucks from FlOoReD and DOdGe.They`re mostly boxy. Those Dodges had the straight axle/leaf spring front end all the way through`71!!I always likes the bodyline on the bed. They are also built very heavy,as in`61 sheetmetal.I also always liked the wrap around windshield and the arched door window.I always compared them to`60-`66 GMs and`58-`60 Fords. They are boxes with styling "Q"s.In`61 we had just lost tailfins,it was the tailend of the "Jet-Age".You can say they`re fugginugly, but put all that into perspective when you do.Look at a`61 Dodge car compaired ti a`61 Impala(my favorite). It was the "overstyling" era between the`50s and the performance mid-`60s.A little truck like that 70/71 could be had with a 383 or (I believe) 440.That would be a powerful little fugly butt hauler.
Here`s a before lift shot.Packed for Snowmass,CO.Then,decided to go to Stuart,FL for the winter,first...

...and my favorite...

Re: Interesting Comparison

Hey it's nice to open your mind and take a peek at what the other guys were doing. I still like the chevy's by far the best but it's cool to see something like that silver Dodge done up nice.

Anything someone takes the time to make it look as good as that Dodge does, is alright in my book. (Chevy still better though )

Re: Interesting Comparison

If it's a 60's-early 70's model anything it looks better than what we have to choose from now.I have had some Dodges from that era and they were good trucks.I personally like the 318/340 they used.Parts are a bit pricier and not as available.I prefer the Chev/GMC styling of the time but I would rather have the Siilver one than some of todays crap.Another plus for that body style is that at any given show you will compete against another 67-72 but I doubt he ever has to.Most cars built now are only distiguishable by the badging on them.Sadly I think style has lost out to ease of "mass" production and we will probably never see styling like the 50's-70's.
I know I have had chances to buy some pretty awesome muscle over the years that I passed up because it wasn't in decent enough shape to suit me.Those same cars are now worth 20-30 times what I could have had them for.I'm sure most members here did the same.

Re: Interesting Comparison

You won't find a tougher truck than a '61 to '71 Dodge, if you can keep them from rusting!
