Started sanding on it again

Here it is before

I guess the way my paint looked, everyone just figured I painted over rust.. I dunno... but heres what I go so far, just started on it, but figured I would post up that it was just bad paint, not rust

You actually look like you have some darn nice sheet metal there.

I wish mine was even close to rust free

I agree with faribran

no one said that ... what was said was you were asking TOO MUCH for the condition it was in ... including the rust.

Cool Re: Started sanding on it again

I must have missed that thread 1LoC10. How did I miss that one?

I can guarantee that I was not in on that one.

I really do not like it when people start disin other peoples stuff without knowing the real story.

But to all the non-belevers out there it sure looks like some pretty pristin sheet metal that was passed up

You will be glad you didn't sell it anyway, right.

Not to mention I want to see one finished in one of those Hot Rod Flatz colors.

Re: Started sanding on it again

I remember seeing the post - there looked to be some rust in the cab, but the rest looked O.K.. ...one thing about this site, is that if you're gonna hang something out there, be prepared for a million opinions...sometimes you may not like them, but take them for what they're worth. As I remember, you were asking why you thought it wasn't selling, and people were pretty candid, probably a little too candid - maybe the question should have been what can I do to make this truck sell? Just my .02. BTW, it looks like you're puttin' in a lot of work - hope you can keep it!

Re: Started sanding on it again

I think some were a little too harsh in your other post. The metal in these pics looks good fom what I can see. If you ever decide to sell at least you can show buyers what the metal looks like before covering in primer. Keep up the good work!

Re: Started sanding on it again

You are certainly doing the right thing now. Take it all the way down to bare metal and prep it properly before applying etch, epoxy primer or both. Get all that bad "ju-ju" off there. I love the blue flatz...was going to use that on my '67...you beat me to it...LOL!

Re: Started sanding on it again

When you start on something like this, how do you keep it from rusting? I have a bed I want to strip down, but am concerned that once I start, it may sit for weeks in-between sessions. With all the humidity and temp changes around here, I don't want it to rust.

Looks nice, BTW --

Re: Started sanding on it again

I have never let anything sit that long so I cant help ya... I just got the whole truck down to bare metal, then when I was ready to spray primer, I sanded one panel down, primed, then sanded the door down and primed.. and so on

Re: Started sanding on it again

a good etch primer is very very important , before any epoxy primer. allthough the shop i work at sprays spiece( GERMAN DUPONT ) i would go for PPG s etch. i have used it on alot of things and it really etches the metal great. the epoxy primer alone simply doesnt have enough adheasion. at least in the cases i have done. if you want the name for ppg s primer let me know. and i will glady get you all the details. ............. tony
