Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

I'm moving my tank from inside the cab to the under the Fleetside bed. Am using the LMC 21 gallon kit to do so.

My plan is once the tank is in place, to run a hose/filler neck up between the inside/outside bed walls on the driver's side and use a billet fuel door/cover. I'm trying to avoid mounting a door on the exterior quarter because of the welding/body/repainting it'll cause.

Mounting the tank is straightforward, but before I go chopping holes in the driver's side inner bed wall, I'd like to see some of your filler caps and covers if they're mounted inside the bed between the tailgate and the fender.

Thanks.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

there is a thread here someplace about using a gas door of a s-10 you cut it down and mount it to the back of your side marker light

so it looks like a normal light but it opens and there you have your filler cap with cutting no holes in the outside of the box

i dont rem what the conversion is called but its here someplace i am sure somebody else will chime in

I just did this today. Just my approach, cause I don't want to re-paint.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

This is how I did mine. Used a 4" hole saw and used what i cut out to make the door; welded and smoothed a hinge, also welded on a simple tab. I've got magnets epoxied to the underside of the bed so it don't rattle. Maybe you dont want to cut your bed though...

Here's a couple. Mine is the first one. The second one can be filled without removing the cap. Can be purchased from some hotrod vendors.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

Thanks Lazybra1n. That is novel and wouldn't look bad at all under the gatorhyde/rhino liner I'm planning.

Mudder, your pics are real close to what I have in mind, but my bed is steel like Lazybra1n's. As such, a flat steel door wouldn't work in the corrugated flooring. But the setup would work fine in the bed side wall. Wonder how hard it would be to fill up with gas if the door were on the vertical inside wall instead of the horizontal floor, given that most modern pump nozzles have that springy foreskin collar thing on the nozzle. Last thing I'd want is to have to twist the nozzle in a precarious manner, have to use a funnel, or to have to trickle-fill the tank.

I'm most impressed with ChevyDude's thread and his use of a marine deck filler setup. It looks really clean, is out of the way when hauling stuff, and out of sight as well.

Thanks all for your inputs so far. Keep 'em coming though!

Thanks.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

Here's a pic or two of my under the bed tank install with fuel filler. Works great, don't have to "trickle" the gas in and if I have items in the bed I don't have to move them to get to the fill cap.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

here's mine.

Huggercst did what I realized about halfway modding it, that those flat led's sure would be nice. Both the fact that they're thin and that the wires come from the bottom makes a huge help if you go with a taillight filler. IF I would have known about those lights beforehand, I'd have used them.

But I did manage to reuse the stock filler from the in-cab tank!

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

I'm plannint to run a filler hose ove to the drivers side rear stake pocket upper. It seems like I saw a picture on here where someone did that.

SactoJim....that looks great! I especially like the attention to detail to nicely finish the edges of the ribs.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

I'm with ackattack, my plan is to invert a blazer filler and cover to fill from just below top of bed at stake pocket. That way if I'm hauling something (usually parts or camping and fishing stuff) I don't have to unload it to fill up.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

Ok.... I'm getting older & all but those pics are messing w/my mind.

In SactoJims 1st pic, the yellow part of the floor looks like the low level; the shiny parts are the high level; & it looks like the door is attached to the high level areas.

In the 2nd pic (once it's in primer), it looks like the door is now attached to the lower level of the floor. The 3rd pic looks like the 2nd.... only w/some shiny stuff on top.

Is it just my eyes or ? ? ????????????

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

I know you are looking for bed options, but you should really see what HuggerCST did with his rear tank.

Hope the link works.

Re: Need Pics of gas tank fillers inside the bed

Thanks all. Hugger CST's approach is certainly novel, but unless it's a "bolt-in", it's goiing to require more paint/body/welding fabrication that I'm willing to do for this go around. Don't get me wrong, it's excellent. Just not for me at this time.

Still collecting ideas though, keep em coming.

Thanks.
