just bought lo mile C2500, teething problems
Hi, new to this section. Just replaced my '66 GMC. Bought an original approx. 30,000 mile LB '86 Custom Deluxe. Carb. 350/ 350, 4:10 rearend, A/C. California emissions. Drives like a tight 2 year old truck. The few small problems are: hesitation when feathering gas from idle, and the right turn signal won't cancel (left works fine).
Are there any common running problems from this era? Advice appreciated Thanks! |

With the 4:10 rear it will be hungry for fuel, especially with the 350 tranny. You might check on that tranny to see if it is a 350C (lock-up convertor), there will be a four prong electrical plug on the driver's side of the tranny above the oil pan. The 350C trannys are a little lighter in design on the input shaft, than a standard TH350 tranny.

Yep, I know about the fuel use, but this will be used to pull a car trailer.
I haven't checked the trans, but I know the old owner had it rebuilt in '00 by the Chevy dealer when the truck had 20,000 on the odo. He claimed it leaked and didn't move (on the paperwork I have). Sure, let an automatic sit for a decade and chances are it will leak. The internals were probably fine, just needed seals, but the dealer did a complete including converter to the tune of $1600! I remember years ago an old lady was trying to sell her late husbands 64 Chevelle, which had sat for several years. It would start but not move. I added ATF for her and it worked fine. Shoulda bought it, but I did buy her '61 Ranchero. I will say this, that trans shifts hard. It doesn't say a shift kit was put in, but I personally would like a smoother shift. |

the right and left cancel, are a plastic piece inside the steering assembly, in order to get to it, you have to pull off your steering wheel, and disassemble the steering column, its a pain in teh azz to replace.,.,.,.

Thanks, guys, I've replaced the turn switch in my wife's old Mustang, figured it was similar, a nylon or plastic piece.

Sounds to me like the accelerator pump is bad. I would kit the carb.
