column shift for 700R4
I have had a floor shifter for some time, but would like to go back to a column shift.
Can you make a column shifter work with all 4 gears of a 700R4? Also, can you get a new indicator that shows 4 positions and looks factory? |

Yes & yes.
I used a Lokar shift linkage for mine, but I think you can modify stock linkage to work. I got my indicator from the Truck & Car Shop.

Re: column shift for 700R4
I took my GM column shift and linkage and made it workwith a 700R4 without a lot of work. Let the tranny detents do your work for you and install the plastic OD shift indicator and all is well. Be sure to align the shift points with the different detents.

Re: column shift for 700R4
That's all I did. I just loosened the linkage and adjusted it to line it up with the detents. I also mooved the linkage pivit pin down on the frame back to line up with the linkage on the transmission. I haven't bothered to change the indicator. It lines up with drive when it is in overdrive. L1 drops down below L1 on the indicator.

Re: column shift for 700R4
Ok, sounds good. Good to know that it's easily posible.
I took the column shifter off about 5 years ago and the parts are long gone, but I got another column I can use. |
