Switching cabs 70 to 69
I have all the paper work for the 1969 GMC and actually a 1970 Chevy. I want to switch to the 1969 front clip etc and run it as a 1969. How hard is it or what are the difficulties in changing regarding the paperwork and the VIN.
As a matter of fact I bought the 69 because I thought it was in better shape and now I found a ton of rust under the dash and the whole passenger side. The 70 has the basic rust but the overall cab is in great shape. What do you think?

Re: Switching cabs 70 to 69
you just want to run the GMC fenders hood and grill on the 70 chevy... is that what you are saying?
If so, those are just body partws, no VIN chainges or deception is involved. |

Re: Switching cabs 70 to 69
Sure. But what if I want to register it as the 69 GMC? I want to have all of the GMC parts such as front clip, mirrors etc etc. Can I just switch the vin plate in the door jamb when I do the body work?

Re: Switching cabs 70 to 69
you need to contact your DMV for that.
I'm willing to bet, they'll tell you to use the cab and frame from the 69 GMC. Out of curiosity, what does it matter what the VIN and title say? Make it look like a GMC, and let ppl think it's a GMC. The only thing left on mine that key it in to being a chevy instead of GMC would be the title/VIN, one door panel has a bow tie on it, and the wall mart rubber floor mats. GMC trim, GMC grill, GMC hub caps, GMC tail gate, even the badge on the center console is a GMC piece. |

Re: Switching cabs 70 to 69
I already have the Johnny Cash truck and was trying to keep the title etc to where it made sense. Maybe I am just being too picky. As someone said i love a GMC front clip in the air.

Re: Switching cabs 70 to 69
One of the most funnyest things i hear now days is swaping vin tags. you Know the 1967--69 camaros now have a full body swap and the sub frame is harley ever used they get One of them new Fat man Mustang II front ends and so on.
Now days the DMV could care less The one you have to worrie about is your INS Program Like Haggerty the worlds Biggest Insurer of cars trucks and clastic Boats and race cars. Now DMV knows that most of the cabs on the road to day that are 40-50 years old are not the same from what came on there.Dmv just want to make sure the Lic and the Vin tag match Here in Calif where we don't have a Car or truck Inspection program there is no Problem's. Now in other states best to cut the vintage off the old frame it will be on the driver side about a foot before the bumper mounts to the frame Horns. Butmost of the time i've seen cops get more mad at people not telling the DMV what Color the truck car is now.Ive painted 3 muscal cars and did not tell the DMV and had one stolen. Yes there looking for the plate but DMV has on record what color your truck and car is . But the vintag can be swaped along with the frame ID number or just refill the old serial number on the frame and grind it smooth and restamp it |

Re: Switching cabs 70 to 69
brings up my situation. 69 truck and title, liscensed 69. I am putting 68 clip on and shaving side markers to appear as a 67. Any problems in Oregon with that that anyone knows of???? If there is a question I will just play dumb, " like they said it was a 69 man! It sure looks pretty close far as I can tell."

Re: Switching cabs 70 to 69
prg... no law against swappin fenders and grills. If anyone gives you trouble, tell them to kiss off... right after showing your VIN and registration.
stsalvage, sure hate to put it this way, but everything you said there I'll have to disagree with. Cali DOES go by the frame, and they require the cab to match. Any discrepencys, and you have to have the state issue you a VIN and title. I looked into this when i was lookin into moving there since my cab and frame are off by one digit. (looks like a cab got damaged on the assembly line and they just tossed the next one on) I double dog dare you to go to the riverside county sherrif, and tell him your frame and cab don't match. I'll bet a kick in the daddy parts that you'll end up walkin home. A camaro has no frame, so the body is the VIN'd part. A sub frame is just a part. |
