LED tail lights

I found a place that sells LED tail lights for 67-72 trucks. The place is called truck shop in orange calif the e-mail address is WWW.truckandcarshop.com they are $25 per light so $50 for both plus shipping unless you live near there its about 30 min for me. I saw a thread here that tells you how to make them from another LED light from a big rig it still costs you 50 bucks and its a hack job. the ones from the truck shop are a direct fit very nice.

But I would have to say that the big trucks tend to have a rougher ride quality and are on the road all the time. LEDs have a life span of about 10K hours of use, so it would not take long to wear them out with an over the road truck. Just my .02...Randy

Re: LED tail lights

With these LED taillights, do you just replace the factory ones? Or do you have to rewire something?

Thanks

Re: LED tail lights

I have a set from Mike as well. They just plug into the factory outlet. You remove the taillight lens and bulb. The new taillights are a sealed unit (LEDs & lens). Simple swap & quality part. No other mods needed, not even an electronic flasher.

Additionally, I ordered mine with the first round. The price dropped shortly after that and Mike gave me a credit at his shop (which reminds me I need to spend that $). Excellent, trustworthy vendor with quality service.

Re: LED tail lights

I got the same ones, only clear they are great!! I do have one little gripe about them. The piece that plugs in to the socket doesn't have any part you can grab so you almost have to use the wires to get it all in right, or at least that is the way it went for me. I do have fairly big hands and it was a bit a an issue.

Re: LED tail lights

I put a pair of 1157 LED's in my '69, almost 8 years ago. Still got 'em. All I had to do was replace the flasher with an electronic flasher.

On my '96, I had to place a 100ohm, 50watt resistor in the circuit that ends up being electrically parallel to the filament. The flasher on the later models is already electronic and controlled by the computer of the truck.
