A-arm question pics inside!!
Hey guys, Im trying to bolt up a set of 73-87 A-arms to a 70 front crossmember, but have soon discovered that the alignment dowels on the bottom of the member where the u-bolt connection is made has two different shapes. One being round and the other oblong. I read somewhere that all these crossmembers interchange, but it doesnt look like this will work. I trial fit the arm against the member, and it seems like one of the holes on the arm will interlock with the dowel but it feels like the oblong dowel isnt holding. Is this safe? Will it work this way?

well maybe grind the hole to oblong it keeps the shaft from rotating. or did you get any more parts off the donar frame if it comes apart what happens then

I really didnt want to grind any holes. It seems like either N2trux or N2 billet did this on their truck I think. Mabye I'll just Pm one of them and see what they did.

The front alignment 'dowel' is the one that seats into the a-arm shaft. It works on the early 60's shafts all the way thru the 87's. Seat the front dowel & make sure the rear of the shaft tightens up flush @ the top of the shaft & the bottom of the 'cup' it's centered within.

Thanks Scoti, youve helped me before and I appreciate it man. The A-arms that I have came off an 80 sumthin, and that crossmember was different, it didnt have an oblong dowel but both were round. So I wasnt sure if these arms required both dowels to be the same for proper alignment. Thank the lord for the board!!! Oh heres a pic of what Im working on.......
