might be a dumb question but are the accessory brackets different on both style engines?

Re: regular heads and vortec heads

I'm thinking about selling my engine parts I have stored and getting an assembled long block and TPI to replace my engine.

Re: regular heads and vortec heads

Vortec heads have all of the same mounting holes in the same locations as any other small block head. The only thing that will not work on our year trucks is the A/C compressor bracket where it fastens with one of the intake manifold mounting bolts. Those bolts are different (way different) on Vortec heads.

I plan on going with March Pulleys so I'm getting all new brackets.

Re: regular heads and vortec heads

I do not know if this is the case or not, but I would have to say the accessory bolt holes for a Vortec head and a Non-Vortec head are more than likely the same. However, since I have the 330HP/350 with Vortec heads, I know from experience that I had to buy different accessory brackets for my rebuild when it came to mounting options involving the intake bolts. Here is a pic out of the Old Air Catalog that shows the bolt holes for the head and intakes, and the differences between the intake mounting options.
