I made a brake drum puller
I decided to make a brake drum puller because I got tired of having to beat the crap out of my brake drums to get them loose.
see all the photos here: http://cell.dreamhosters.com/photos/brake-drum-puller/ start with a 3 jaw puller from harbor freight: then weld some extensions onto the arms: cut to length, drill holes, and finish the edges: viola: |

Re: I made a brake drum puller
very innovative! I just used a pry bar and eased it out around the drum...not putting too much pressure in just one area. It worked eventually, but prolly not as good as that.

Re: I made a brake drum puller
I like that, a lot! I was trying to make a crappy one while i was getting mine off, but it never worked. Wish i had a welder to do that. How would u use it on the front drums is my question? Can u just pop off the cover for the spindle adn then put the little part of the puller right on the end of that bolt? That is an awesome job, nice....

Re: I made a brake drum puller
SkylineNXS: well, I didn't realize this at first, but it turns out the front rotors are riveted to the brake drums, so you have to take apart the bearing assembly in order to take the front brake drums off. I wound up grinding out the rivets so I could replace the brake drums and I'll be posting pictures of that in a few days when I finish my brake overhaul.
But yeah, the front spindles do have a divot right in the center, so the puller should work there as well (actually, I may not have made the arms long enough -- I might not be able to back the puller out far enough to fit onto the spindle. I'll have to try it out tonight). |
