77 to 68 front susp swap?
Hi
I know this has been asked to death, but I cant remember for positive if a 77 gmc front suspension setup will "bolt up" to a 68 frame.I have the chance to get a 77 gmc 1500.The 454 runs(tho with a flat cam not well)and it has all the goodies, tilt, air,ps,pl,pw,power disc brakes(5 bolt) and was wondering if i could use the cradle, arms, brake setup and ps box etc as a direct bolt up? I plan on taking the 454,400 and rallies off it and also the front suspension if it will work.My buddy needs the other goodies for his 75 swb 454.i cant pass it up for $400 with all these nice goodies to use off it. Thanks in advance RaTTrap 68 |

You can use the whole steering crossmember and the steering gear. The steering gear should just bolt right up to your frame without any problems, however to bolt the whole crossmember in you will have to enlongate one of the holes on the side of your frame. In each side of your frame you will have 7 holes, 3 that are along the bottom and 4 in the side. It is one of the side holes that you will have to enlonggate. The one that it is, is the lower rear one on the side of the frame. I believe that you will have to enlonggate it toward the front of the frame, however I am not possitive. You can set the crossmember in place using the 3 bolts in the bottom to allign it and you will see which way it needs to be done. I have done this with 3 or 4 trucks and it works great.
