im only 15, and am turning 16 shortly, im wrapping up a build on a 69 chevy truck, and my dad is telling me i have to put should belts in my truck. i dont want them, i think they will ruin the otherwise tottally stock linterior. he says i can drive the truck without em, but im not allowed to have and girls with me.

obviously im gunna need a shoulder belt.

i have an aqu- turquoise (stock) color, interior and out. Do any of you boys have any recomendations of a belt that would match the color like the stock lap belts do?

are they hard to install?

I know you dont want to hear this but your Dad is right, you should have shoulder belts in your truck. You can buy them seperately or get a set of newer (2000 & Up) Chevy truck seats with the integrated shoulder belts cause they will bolt right into your truck but you'll need to reinforce the floor to do that . You can get a shoulder belt set up from julianos but by the time you buy them from the USA and get them to Canada it'd be cheaper( and more comfortable) for you to get a set of seats from a newer truck.

They were available in '69. If you look at the upper rear corners of your cab, you will probably see a cover over the threaded hole, or maybe the covers are gone. Regardless, the thread bosses are there to mount 3-point seat belts. You won't ruin a stock interior but you will gain a little more safety. There are people (Click and Clack, for instance) who advocate getting later model vehicles for younger drivers to give them as many safety advantages as possible; side impact protection, air bags, etc. You know your Dad is only out to keep you around for as long as possible.

Go ahead and do it. It'll be okay.

You could get shoulder belts in some of the trucks back then so adding them wont make it look less original by any means

yeah, ive seen those little covers, but never really looked into what they were for, i assume 3-point belts were uncommon in 69....

what about belts that mounted on the roof of like a 95 or so truck?

would they work?

my dad made me do the same thing. i bought some black ones on ebay from a hot rod guy for about $100 and added a middle lap belt. they're from auto loc though, which is a good brand. my cab had holes in the pillars for the shoulder belt already.

I did the same thing, I bought Auto locs from "fat rodder" he has good prices and fast shipping.

I got some but I didn't install them yet. I was changing my interior color from white to black and the 3-point were just $10 more so i decided to get them. My dad said I should get mine too as I'm not much older then you(17 going to be 18 next week). Parents are always looking out for their kids, so I guess its a good thing.

I'm using a set from an S-10, they have "GM" on them like original but are smaller. Safety first dude...

tell your dad that the girls will be sitting in the middle though!!!!! duh...

Yes, take a look at the late '80's to early '90's S-10 belts. Many have done this conversion. I did a small write up in the FAQ section.

That would make for a comfortable seat, but that is my couch.

Hutch- I think they were around $375 for the 2 lap belts( no center one with buckets) and the shoulder belts. http://www.cs-m.com/index.htm

I got stopped by an officer accusing me of not wearing my seatbelt about three days ago. Of course it just has lap belts like most of our trucks. I was dang sure wearing it and he argued with me a couple minutes saying that "this truck did have shoulder belts, you just removed them". He finally let me go, no ticket, but he said I need to put shoulder belts in it. I called the Police Dept. and talked to his supervisor, hopefully the supervisor didn't lie to me and straightened him out like he said he would. If I were you I'd put some shoulder belts in to avoid being hassled by the law.

In 1987 I folded around a lap belt in an accident and burst a vertebra. They cut me open and rebuilt it with parts from my ribs. A shoulder belt would have saved me a lifetime of constant pain.

my son just put in seats out of a 2003 chevy truck last week for his 67.he is also 15 and will be 16 next minth.it makes me feel a whole lot better with those shoulder belts built right in,plus they look great.the only complaint he has is his hurst rachect shifter sits back too far so he cant fit the middle buddy seat in it to get the girls closer to him.
