Wheel spacer question

I have 20 X 9's all around on my 79 Step but the back wheels tuck in a little too much for my taste. Closer than the fronts do. What size spacer should I use to get them to come out a bit? Who makes them also?

Dave

Re: Wheel spacer question

Without being silly in my answer, that would really depend on your backspacing/offset of the wheels you have on there. Only you can tell how much further you want to move those wheels out. If it's a small amount, then most of the regular catalog places (e.g. Jegs, Summit etc) sell thin spacers. If you need something more than that, then I'd deal with someone reputable. I have used wheeladapter.com in the past to make some for me but there are many others who do this.

Thanks, I found Summit to be way too expensive. I found adaptitusa.com to be the cheapest so far. $49.75 for a 5x5 to 5x5 with 1.5 inch spacer with free shipping. Will try them. I have about three inches to the edge of the back fender but I don't want to go that much.

Re: Wheel spacer question

Just curious,... are your wheels actually 20x9? They look like the Boss 305's. I thought they only came in an 20x8 inch rim. The most "popular" 5 on 5 version of those wheels have a 5 inch backspace. Just wondered. Most 8" rims will measure 9" from "outside lip to outside lip". A rim is measured from the tire bead surface. I just thought a 9" rim should be closer to the edge of the fender lip than your pictures show.

Re: Wheel spacer question

StepinNJ,... I guess I got my Boss numbers wrong. What backspace you you have on your wheels? And could you swap out the rears to a 9.5 or 10 inch wide rim to correct your problem?

Not sure of the back space but if I did swap to a bigger rim wouldn't I have to change tire size? Would the bigger rim size alter the tires I have now? I have 275/45/20's.
