when i bought my 67 3/4 4wd it had a rochester 4bbl on the 327. i would like to rebuild it but i can not find the id number. most of the time it is written on the drivers side of the carb right? where else might it be?

I think the 4 barrels are on the passenger side.

The quadrajets I have owned were all on the drivers side.
Here are a couple of sites to check out. The first has a pic of where the numbers are: http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/th.../rochcode.html http://www.carbs.net/quadnumber.htm

My quadrajet number is on the driver's side. Also, it is a rochester design that was built by Carter. On the drivers side it is stamped with the words "manufactured for GMC by Carter".
