WIW-1972 Custom Deluxe Highlander

After seeing vtblazer's 4x4 for sale, i'm considering selling my truck to get a 4x4, if not his, then another. I am the second owner of my truck, an old man had it and took meticulous care of it until he passed away, when his wife put it on ebay. it spent it's life in arizona until he moved to oregon for two years with his daughter until he passed. There are ten pages of things in back of owners manual where he wrote down everything he ever did to truck. Has all manuals and protecto-plate and all paperwork when bought new. The truck has nearly zero rust, a small spot on inside of passenger door and about a dime size spot on driver kick panel, everything else is solid as a rock. Truck is:

Original paint
350
automatic (rebuilt 20K ago)
tilt
air (blows cold/still r-12)
wood floor
rear step bumper
p/s
p/b
red/orange and white
highlander package

I installed air ride suspension on it. It has dropped spindles and bags up front, blocks, bags, shock relocator and super track bar in rear. kyb shocks all the way around. Has an air ride technologies onboard compressor system (4-way) as well. All ball joints, brakes, calipers, etc. are near new. Suspension came out front under Filmguys truck. Wheels are centerline 15x10 and 15x8 with new bfg tires. I have a set of new sport mirrors in box that i've not installed. I have nearly everything to make it short as well. I have a complete short truck with crappy body (71), an NOS driver's short bedside, a complete near mint long steel floor bed which i was going to shorten floor and use head gate to make a steel bed. I have an NOS inner and outer grill, bowtie, front park lights, and some miscellaneous parts for restore. Interior is very nice with new plastic chrome pieces, dash pad, bezel, comfort grip steering wheel, sill plates, i have spent a lot of time and money on this thing. Has new dual exhaust with flows, new battery, new alternator, it's ready to go, i'd jump in it and go anywhere. Just want a feeler for what you guys think it might bring. I am not interested in selling parts because if i don't sell truck i will keep them for the restore. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!!!

frank

Why no pictures of the front, right side, interior, or the engine

I'd say at least $10K, but more pic's could change my opinion

Re: WIW-1972 Custom Deluxe Highlander

i broke into my stash and decided some other stuff that would go with it. i have nos highlander plaid, a new scroll insert for bottom and top (seat now is not factory, just one someone made and put the plaid in) The door panels that are on it have some grain rubbed off and extra holes, so i have a perfect set of blue that can be bead blasted and died to match. Also the truck has all new pedals with trim, new inner and rubber and fuzzies on doors, new arm rests, lots of little stuff that i'm forgetting. It's hard to price this thing because i have so much stuff i've done and so much to go with it. I'd really like to sell it with the parts if i do sell it, which after getting all cleaned up and looking at everything i've got i should be kicked, but if the price is right i would sell. let me know what you guys think

Considering all the extra stuff you have and the condition of the truck, I'd just keep it if I were you. You probably won't get a dollar amount for it that will justify giving up all that. Just my .02.

i wasn't in oregon, bought it off ebay. it was only there two years, i can't remember exactly where. i've just been too cheap to go transfer title and pay tax, would much rather spend money on parts.

Re: WIW-1972 Custom Deluxe Highlander

Keep it and make it a shorty! Odds are you're going to loose your tail trying to move it. I think I would even reuse the headgate you already have and make the shorty a wood floor truck. You know they don't look half bad with the floor and strips the same color as the truck. That's how they came when new isn't it? I for one couldn't place a value on it. LWB trucks are hard to price. Even with all the parts to make it a SWB you're still going to have to paint and then you kinda loose that "survivor" status of having all original paint.

Re: WIW-1972 Custom Deluxe Highlander

dont cut this truck seriously though they are only original once and the paint on this truck looks to be super nice.If it was a rusty I would say got for it,but in my opion its way too nice.

Didnt see your post about keeping it untill I posted.I think you would regret getting rid of it anyways.

Re: WIW-1972 Custom Deluxe Highlander

after much consideration, a heart to heart with myself and my 4 year old, i think i've decided to keep it. i found a steel short floor today for a steal (no pun) and am going to start on rolling chassis and stuff i can do without much dinero. reason for steel floor is it will be 12 years before he can drive it and then he will take it school and set it outside, so i want steel. thanks for the input guys, if nothing else i can paint it acrylic and scratch it up to look original (haha). i don't want to completely restore right now, but do want to get it shortened and looking decent as it does now. i still need a good passenger bedside (OEM) with good stake holes, so keep your eyes out guys.

Build a shortbed from scratch just the way you want it(slight suggestion)and leave that truck beautiful and in use as long as you can. You`ll need two in 12 years and that`ll be here quick.

Do I understand you have a orange plaid Highlander seat cover?
I would be very interested in this if you would sell separately.

Re: WIW-1972 Custom Deluxe Highlander

denny,
i have some orange plaid material and had a scroll built, but the grain is wrong. i was going to have one built. i don't want to get rid of what i have. i got the material and scroll from sms auto fabrics and it is correct. they are on the web. it's gonna cost a chunk to get it all done by the time it's said and done but it will be sweet. let me know if you need any info.

As a fellow LWB owner whose also stood at the SWB crossroads, don't do it. You got one heck of a nice truck there and it'd be a shame to see it cut.

Is the scroll and grain from the houndstooth covers the same as the Highlander patterns?

there are no scrolls in houndstooth covers, and i'm not sure what the exact name of correct grain is, but the guy who i get my parts from has his own covers made and knows his stuff and said the grain was wrong. his guy can take an original scroll insert and make it look new. i'm trying to get one from teeitup right now, then i can have a cover made.

Sorry Ed, I don't know what their worth. Perhaps someone can chime in.
I'm not sure there has been enough sold to set a precedent.
Key is finding someone that needs it.

Perhaps the fella will do a package deal for two covers? Might save us some cash.
I have the original cover with the scroll in tact.
It was recovered at one point and they sprayed adhesive in it but it rubs off pretty easy. I can clean it as necessary.
Can you get a price?
