steering column help PLEASE

Just came up with a 72 tilt column to put in my 68. It is rough inside and out.
Im sure it's to much to explain here But where can I find info on taking one apart and putting back together. How does the wiring harness come out of the column? If I take off the bottom cap(best way I could explain it) does everything fall out? I feel I might be out of my league (Little League) on this.
If there is reading material out there somewhere I would love a hint where to find it. This site is great and very usefull for for those of us who should be using rubber tools.
Thanks
Gary
