Thought I'd try something different with the door panels...

So I painted them med. blue metallic with white where the woodgrain would go. I then cleared 'em and put 'em in the truck with some new handles and rollers.

I can't recall ever seeing anyone else two tone a 72 panel, I'm probably not the first, but I think it looks cool

On a good note, my interior is FINALLY about 98% done... and the A/C is friggin awesome.

Very sharp looking. Might not be stock, but it looks like it oughta be.

Re: Thought I'd try something different with the door panels...

I like it. I did something similar in the past. I actually cut out that area and put in a section from a metal door panel. The plan was to chrome that section but I sold the truck before that happened... Here it's just wire-wheeled and clear-coated. I actually liked the brushed look this gave it.

The cool thing about this method is that you can use the panels on 67-71 trucks with no need for 72 regulators and relays

Nice! I like these kind of mods, things that aren't stock but look like they could have been. I just got A/C in my truck this weekend too, it's a beautiful thing!

Wow, you definitely win for the "different" category...

Didn't GM offer a similar style door panel for 72 in all plastic?

I finished the passenger side last night.

The chrome actually cleaned up nicely with my dremel.

I painted the door panels, dash, and speaker kick panels to all match

Re: Thought I'd try something different with the door panels...

I knew I was taking too long to get to my interior... but the plan is the combo of the white AND the metal panel inserts so it should look unique still... if I ever get it done. Very nice - both of them.

Re: Thought I'd try something different with the door panels...

67,
very nice job!! i actually just got done doing a very similar job to my '72. i painted my old green panels a light buckskin to go with the hopefully soon to be yellow & white truck. i am planning to have the interior a light tan or buckskin color. by the way i took pics of the beginning of the ac install on my truck last night. i finished mounting the condenser & dryer. now all i need is to get busy on the compac gen II universal unit inside the cab....

again a very nice job on the panels!!!
