I bought my 70 flatbed in California and had it shipped home. I have kept the old California plate on the front.

Re: whats under your tag???

Mine still has the original Cali black plates, but nothing special under the stickers. After the stack gets too high, I peel 'em all off and start over.

Hey wait a minute greasemonkey -- if my original plates are black, why are yours blue? Can't remember when they changed from black to blue, guess maybe sometime in 1972?

Re: whats under your tag???

GA has changed actual metal plates too many times to keep an original sticker on there.

There were actually several years worth that they were stamped into the metal.

I do have an original 1971 tag from Alabama though (my truck was built in AL, and it's a '71).
It's the stamped metal kind as well.

Re: whats under your tag???

You need to have legislators that are in the back pockets of the man like we have here in Minnesota. Home of 3M (Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing). 3M makes the reflective backs for our plates. They lobbied the state legislature to require new plates every 7 years. All our "normal" plates get tossed out every 7 years. My 1994 Escort is scheduled for its 3rd set this winter. Its a good deal if you sell reflective coatings.

Re: whats under your tag???

My 70 4x4 had the same plates on it since my Dad bought it in 72, from 1972 until 2005. I finally had to get new plates for it because the rear was literally torn in half from so many years of backing up to the trailer too far and hitting the plate. The stickers were stacked about 1/4" thick on there!

Re: whats under your tag???

It's kind of hard to do this in Texas. Back in the '90s they moved the sticker to the inside of the cab.
