eau de oil/gas.. how do you get rid of it???

Everytime I work on my vehicles, my wife remarks about my oily, gassy smelling clothes and it also lingers on my hands. She happens to smoke and I don't, so she doesn't complain, just remarks.

I usually use regular gojo and/or orange type cleaners but I can't seem to get all of the smell of my hands.. Any suggestions appreciated.. Please...

Try rubbing cold cream into your hands then wash it off.It works for some and doesn't for others. You might also try a good quality hand lotion or cream to keep your hands soft. When your hands are soft they will not absorb the oil/gas so much.I have found that No-Crack from "Restoration Hardware" works well as do some of the intensive care lotions/creams.

If you are worried about your hands smelling like oil and gas, then maybe this is the wrong hobby for ya.

Nope, I ain't worried about it-I'm used to the smell... Just don't want to offend the wife anymore than I do by having junk parts in the garage...

Many years ago, I used to be able to buy a gritty hand cleaner (sort of like corn meal) from an auto parts here that was made by Anco. That stuff was excellent for removing gasoline/oily smells. Can't find it anymore..

I rub a glob of gojo on my hands before I start, dont rinse off or anything, just let dry and then wipe off with shop towel. Clean up is the same and it really does get rid of the offesive to ladies smell. I have to point at stuff alot in meetings and don't like having the day after nails.... makes a big difference for me.

Hey, that's a good idea. Someone mentioned to me a long time ago that there's also some stuff (soapy solution) that mechanics rub on their hands and let it dry before working on cars... I like yours better.

Thanks.
