rochester 2gv tuning and engine timing help needed
i have a bit of trouble tuning my 2 jet and keeping the truck running. how many screws out (approx) do they (idle screws) need to be. and what about the timing. it wants to die at idle and hesitates upon acceleration. when hot it does not want to start back up (too advanced timing?) i havent put the timing light on it yet. i fixed a vacuum leak but it didnt make much difference. i know the carb is flooding. got any ideas or tuning tips? oh yeah the engine is a stock 1970 350.

The Chilton’s manual has a good explanation how to do the tune on a 2 barrel.

Re: rochester 2gv tuning and engine timing help needed
When I was building them, years ago, I'd turn the screws in until they just barely bottom out. Then, I'd back them off 2 turns, just for starters.
Be careful when you screw them in....they are softer than the base metal into which you are screwing them. If you aren't careful, you'll cut a groove into the pointed end and that will make any future adjustments very hard to make consistently. If they already have grooves in them, you should get new ones to replace them before you start tuning the carburetor.
