So I finally got the motor mount made, and the rack n pinion hooked up to the steering column. Here are some pictures:
My friend George tig welding my mounts

Yes, everything clears!

Steering hooked up

Steering was super easy to connect to the original column too, I shortened how far the colum sticks out past the firewall to lessen the angle on the upper steering universal joint.

And...........I do AC for a living, so I had to have it!

Oh, and thanks again to Chiefrocka for recommending the master cylinder I am using, bolted right up no preblem, set up for disc front and drum rear. Sweet!

Hi,

I missed Chief's recommendation on the master cylinder...I have a 65 SWB..383/700R4...am converting to discs in the front, drums in rear...what do I need.

Its from a 1974 Monte carlo, with manual brakes. Less then $50 including the core charge!

A/C! I dont really care how fast this thing is to a certain degree, but I am going to spoil myself with a nice cool cab on hot days.
I have this guy for the air issue

I can't make it to the bbq, I found out it is on the same weekend that my friends wedding is on that I am in. Definately next time!

You can use a master from a Truck also. They are pretty much all the same in the 70's. The bore's might be bigger in the trucks for more stopping power.. I used the whole power brake booster from a 79 GMC Truck with a master from a 75.. Some fab work is needed to use the later booster.. And if you look at the top of the bracket in the back, it would be nice to cut that off seeing you can't use it..

chevy fleetside i like the way you ran your brake lines. any chance of some pics of the line routing closer to the front or even a description where they run in the front?

Well seeing I took the truck apart I don't have the lines in place anymore. They just ran down to the porportioning valve. I was going to put the new one under the cab and run my lines back againts the firewall. I looked but didn't have a better picture of it then that...

I did a little searching and came up with this picture. It shows a bit more. I really would not advise running your brake lines like this as they could crack from moving around so much..

i got a question....... why are you using the rack and pinion? i know nothing about it so im just wondering what the advantage is over stock or power steering. if thats a stupid question im sorry but i had to ask.

One thing about rack and pinion is it is more responsive then conventional steering.

I have to use a rack and pinion due to the crossmember I built. I would have liked to retain the original stuff, but it would have never worked. I'm hoping to have most of my crossmember complete by this weekend, I'll post a ton of pics showing it.

how much did it cost you and how much trouble was/is it to install? im actually designing a whole new suspension system front and rear for 64-66 trucks and maybe others later, but i hope you understand me not going into detail because i dont want my invention copied. i got it semi drawn out on paper but not completely. when i get it on paper im gonna have some of my hot rod buddies look it over. it will be a while before i build a prototype because of lack of funds.
