Re: 500-472 caddy installation question?

There are some photos on my webpage below. Only problem with the pictures is this..... The are on BACKWARDS in the photos... ie, left to right switch, then filp them over... But you get the idea.

Throw it under the hood, center it up, and have at it.

Re: 500-472 caddy installation question?

Here is a 10 page thread in the engine and drivetrain section of this board;
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=20020
Here is a half ass site I threw together showing the ins and outs of my install.;
http://www.geocities.com/caddyoneton/

You've done it before, you know whats needed. Fuel pump on wrong side, Dist wire needs lengthened, New exhaust pipes...
Specific to these trucks;
Had to dimple the dvr side of the cab, down low by the clutch hole for head/valve cover room. You you are OK depending on a mechanical fan to cool it, you can skip this... or if you have the means to cut and weld, you can bubble that part of the firewall.
Engine stands... I took the 73 - 87 2 wheel drive style... like you used before, put a hole in the center, then used a plazma cutter to trim off the front lower corner, and installed them up forward where they were needed. I also had to 'uncurl' the passenger side framerail where there is clearance for the big block chevy fuel pump... I just used a hammer, it coulda been done a bit nicer though.
You'll want to get rid of those gears... TRUST ME (look in my siggy).

Re: 500-472 caddy installation question?

The problem with your 350 sounds just like the problem i had with a 350 and a 307 in the same car. I just kept buying starters and flexplates and tried shimming the starter different ways and it kept tearing up starters and flexplates. I eventually used up my limited lifetime warranty on starters at advanced auto within no time and my stepdad asked to look at the screen to see the description for the starter they kept giving me and it said metric. So we found out there are metric and standard starters. i put a standard starter on it and its fine

Re: 500-472 caddy installation question?

this was all done without cutting or pounding anything other than making the mounts oil filter clears,didn't touch firewall,moved trans crossmember forward to the bolt holes all the way forward,drivshaft perfect fit I CAN,T WAIT TO DRIVE IT

Re: 500-472 caddy installation question?

Unless Im missing sumthin looks like its a solid mount, not sure if that would be the best for street, lots of vibration and noise transfer. Also you could encounter fatigue breaks having the mounting points at the leverage theyre at, remember these engines are torque pigs! You should be able to come up with the 73-up style frame mounts and it wont change engine location then use 425 rear wheel drive caddy engine brackets makes a factory looking swap, using GM clamshell mounts. Cant post pics here but if anyone is interested Ill be happy to email pics of my swap. And yur gonna luv the torque. My 69 burb is turning about 1250 RPM at 35 MPH With yur foot in it shifts into 3rd (th400 with shift kit)at about 4200 and is leaving the 80 MPH neighborhood very quickly! Ssswwwweeeetttt!
