Hauling the k5 back,ideas?
I'm planning to (unless something goes wrong) haul the k5 back from Kentucky Friday afternoon.It's over a 3 and 1/2 hour drive each way there and some of that is interstate driving.I'm using a Silv 2500 with the duramax to tow the 20' gooseneck trailer but that isn't the part that concerns me.The k5 has the windshield frame cut out and windshield removed.So,hauling it home as-is on the trailer concernes me as the wind could go in where the windshield would be and start to push the top off after I get going.I think I can get a few bolts or screws or what ever holds the top on in it to hold it some but also planned to use some c-clamps and a few tie downs.Should I be concerned about bringing it home like this or tie it down and go?Should I bring a windshield and try to get it in place to help?I suppose I could always remove the hatch to allow the air to flow through it easier...

I would just take the hatch off and clamp + strap the top down good. if you have bolts for the top, that would just be added insurance. When towing IMO,prepare for the worst.

Backwards, but be sure your both level or it will be a b!tch to tow

Right, if you go backward you will want it forward a little, to get even weight on the axles of the trailer.
I would remove the hatch and put the blazer on forward.

I've C-clamped a top backwards on a truck bed and towed it 500 miles without issue.
What's being said above would work as well. Remove the hatch, let the wind blow through but be certain to secure the top. Backwards would work but as posted, pay attention to tongue weight. |

My blazer top came strapped backwards on the back of a pickup from Lousiana to Alberta, Canada (3000 miles). No problems. Attaching it properly to a blazer and trailering it backwards for 3 hours should be no problem.

Set the pickup date back to Saturday.The Duramax TD is fueled and trailer is hooked up and ready to go.The top is suppose to be sitting on it,I am going to take c-clamps to hold the top down combined with some tie-downs to secure the top on it and drive it up on there backwards so the back of the jimmy/blazer is facing the tailgate of the Silverado.In case that won't work,what tools should I take incase I need to remove the hatch? I can't put the top on the back of the truck bed or I would but that wont work well considering it's a gooseneck trailer...

A couple of 2" wratchet straps, from the trailer, over the top should take care of it IMO.
